Mumbai Metropolitan Region will never move the same way again. For decades, the only direct route between Thane and Borivali would take 60 to 90 minutes. That will soon change. Tunnelling is set to commence on India's longest urban road tunnel, the 11.84 km Thane–Borivali Twin Tunnel project. Passing beneath Sanjay Gandhi National Park, the two tunnels are being built using the most advanced TBM technology to ensure safe, efficient and eco-friendly construction with minimal ground disturbance. Leading the charge is Nayak, India's largest single-shield hardrock Tunnel Boring Machine, ready for launch. The other TBM, Arjuna, will also be launched soon.  Each tunnel will feature three lanes, including a dedicated emergency lane, with cross-passages every 300 metres. The tunnels will be equipped with advanced ventilation systems, modern firefighting equipment, smoke detectors and illuminated LED signboards. Once completed, this landmark project will significantly reduce travel time, ease congestion, lower emissions and deliver a faster, cleaner and smarter commute for citizens. Under the visionary leadership of Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a pioneering project of Thane Borivali Twin Tunnel is poised to transform connectivity between Mumbai and Thane.
