So you want to “tax the rich”, do ya? The LA “Mansion Tax” in its first 3 years has resulted in: * a revenue DECREASE of $452 million * 9100 new home constructions blocked (1000 of which were “affordable housing”) * 16,650 full time construction jobs lost

When you think tough hard nosed just the facts ma’am career prosecutor who pursues the law without bias fear or favor you think of Letitia James, who, I want to be clear, is not I repeat NOT a hysterical laughably partisan media driven hack. This case is in good hands.
Tonight, I signed an executive order appointing Attorney General Letitia James as special prosecutor in the Cornell sexual assault case. New information has raised serious questions about how this case was handled, and I’ve lost faith in the Tompkins County DA’s ability to fairly oversee it. The young woman at the center of this case deserves to know that every fact will be examined and justice pursued.

it continues to absolutely boggle my mind how few people realize that refineries in the US Rockies, Plains, Midwest/Great Lakes rely so heavily on millions of barrels of Canadian crude oil *every day* and have since the 1950s
The US is the largest oil producer in the world. We don't need Canadian tar sands oil.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
While the US is the top oil producer, its refineries process over 16 million barrels per day of crude—exceeding domestic output of about 14 million—and rely on millions of barrels per day of heavy imports from Canada suited to their configurations. eia.gov/dnav/pet/pet_s… eia.gov/todayinenergy/… eia.gov/todayinenergy/…

The Sky News "brawl between pilots" is destined to join the Washington Post description of Daesh's al Baghdadi as an "austere religious scholar" in the annals of media bias & bad faith idiocy

Cairo looks so horrible that people in this thread unironically think it’s Gaza 😭
Not sure how anyone can look at this image and not see that it's a genocide.

The mind is a device beautifully designed to analyze a limited amount of data from an unlimited source. It was never intended to comprehend all of it at once. That is the job of the soul.

Maybe you should ask your former boss, David? This happened exactly 11 years ago, September 25th, 2015. You look like a total asshole now, don’t you? 😂
Why does an American @POTUS give the red carpet treatment to the authoritarian leaders of adversarial countries--who are actively aiding war efforts against us--and the back of the hand to our closest allies?

In March of 2023, Gavin Newsom promised 1200 housing "units" costing taxpayers $750 million. It's been more than 3 years and the units and the $750 million are nowhere to be found...

Hey @BernieSanders, you forgot to mention that the Schumer-aligned Senate Majority PAC reportedly reserved $40 million to help elect Sherrod Brown. That PAC has taken $61 million from dark-money group Majority Forward, plus millions from billionaires, including $9 million from Fred Eychaner, $3 million from Stephen Mandel, $2 million from Vinod Khosla and $1 million from Reed Hastings. Billionaires spending $40 million for Brown is “democracy.” Billionaires spending $30 million against Brown is “oligarchy and political corruption.” Your objection isn’t billionaire money. It’s billionaire money supporting the wrong candidate.
This is what oligarchy and political corruption is all about. Crypto billionaires are now spending $30 million to defeat Sherrod Brown in Ohio — only days after Senate Democrats blocked their CLARITY Act. We cannot allow billionaires to buy elections. Fight back!

Imagine you only write one piece a year for the NY Times for an astronomical salary and the one you write in 26 is the story of how you insisted your own daughter be poorly educated to serve your own repellent racialism, which your own parents did not let happen to you.

In the United States today, letting a six-year-old walk three blocks to the park alone will get the police called on you for child neglect. Parents wait in ninety-minute lines of SUVs outside schools to pick up their teenagers. Now stand on a residential street corner in Tokyo at 7:45 a.m. A group of six small children approaches. The oldest is maybe ten years old. The youngest is a six-year-old first grader. They wear bright yellow safety hats and neat leather Randoseru backpacks. There is not a single parent walking with them. They walk in a tidy single file along the green painted safety lane on the side of the road. They hold hands when crossing small alleys. The older children constantly look back to make sure the little ones haven't stumbled. At the main intersection, a retired grandfather wearing a neon green volunteer vest stands holding a yellow handheld stop sign. As the children approach, oncoming cars come to a complete, gentle halt ten feet back. The children cross, turn toward the waiting drivers, bow their heads in unison, and say: "Arigato gozaimasu!" The drivers smile and wave back. This is not a fairytale. This is every Tuesday morning in every neighborhood in Japan. A society has truly made it not when its wealthy citizens drive armored tanks, but when a six-year-old child can walk a mile through a major metropolis protected by nothing more than a yellow cotton hat and the watchful love of an entire community.

Celebrities used to have influence power. Then they started sharing their opinions about political and social issues. That immediately cut their influence in half. But I don't think anyone told them that.
In the year of our Lord 2026, the fact that celebrities still think we care about *any* of their opinions is just incredible arrogance and presumption. (Feel free to swap out the topic of AI for whatever else you like -- the point still stands.)

Evidently, @GavinNewsom doesn't know how to read graphs. Housing prices skyrocketed under Joe Biden's presidency.
