🌊 New Discovery facilitated by the Deep Ocean Mission! With the Ministry of Earth Sciences’ (MoES), as part of collaborative research ongoing under the Deep Ocean Mission (DOM), scientists from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) have discovered a new electric ray species, Tetronarce ramanamurthyi, in the deep waters of the Arabian Sea off India’s southwestern coast. This marks the first confirmed record of the genus Tetronarce in the northern Indian Ocean. Based on nine specimens collected under DOM, the discovery was confirmed through anatomical examination and DNA sequencing. The findings have been published in the international scientific journal Zootaxa. This discovery highlights the importance of deep-ocean exploration in uncovering marine biodiversity and advancing India’s scientific understanding of the ocean. #MoES #DeepOceanMission #ZSI #OceanScience #MarineBiodiversity timesofindia.indiatimes.com/… @narendramodi @mygovindia @PMOIndia @DrJitendraSingh @OfficeOfDrJS @PIB_India @MIB_India @tummalasrini @MVR_NCCR

Historical Feat: India Becomes 1st Investor to Secure 2nd Polymetallic Sulphides Contract! India has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first investor nation to secure two active contracts for deep-sea polymetallic sulphides. This achievement goes beyond resource exploration; it reflects India’s rising leadership in ocean science, technology, and global governance. ✅ Only nation with two PMS contracts under the International Seabed Authority. ✅ 20,000 sq. km of exclusive exploration rights in the Indian Ocean’s mineral-rich ridges. ✅ Reinforces India’s status as a pioneer investor in seabed exploration. ✅ Strengthens both scientific innovation and geostrategic influence in ocean resources.
