In 2023, FOMI received 600 billion Burundian francs in government fertilizer subsidies, in addition to payments from abarimwi. Yet many farmers never received the fertilizer they were entitled to, while those who did receive some reported that it was ineffective. In 2024–2025, FOMI received more than 250 billion Burundian francs in subsidies, on top of payments made by farmers. Once again, FOMI failed miserably to fulfill its contractual obligations, leaving many farmers without the fertilizer they had paid for. Despite this repeated failure, FOMI has the audacity to ask for even more billions of Burundian francs, knowing full well that it failed to honor its previous contracts. Meanwhile, Adrien was opening “fertilizer companies” in neighboring countries. The question is simple: How much of the money provided by the Burundian government in fertilizer subsidies was used to establish those fertilizer plants abroad?The public deserves answers. If it weren’t for abarimwi, where would our economy be today? They play a vital role in sustaining our economy, yet the very people who want to undermine Uburimwi must be held accountable. Right now, thousands of farmers have not received the fertilizer they paid for, and yet the government is talking about allocating public land to the very same individuals who have repeatedly failed abarimwi! How does this make sense? Why should those who have failed farmers continue to receive public money and government support without being held accountable? Burundian farmers deserve answers, transparency, and accountability; not more promises, more subsidies, and more public resources handed to those who have failed to deliver.
