Sep 1st Week 1 is over! Now what?
👇👇👇
Some 2028 SB athletes received calls in Week 1, completed/scheduled visits, & maybe even committed. That's what you see on social media. If you are one of these athletes, congratulations on a strong start of the Sept 1st phase of your recruiting journey!
But, MANY athletes have had none of the above happen for them YET!
So, what to do in Sep 1st Week 2? The 5 R’s!
1) RECOGNIZE the above happened for a small number of 2028 SB athletes! Of the 10,000 or so annual college softball opportunities, I would guess that 9,500 of them are still available after Week 1!
2) REALIZE if the above has not YET happened for you, you are in the majority!
3) RESIST the temptation to compare yourself to others and experience FOMO!
4) RECOMMIT to your development and to your recruiting plan!
5) REQUEST information/feedback from the college softball programs you are interested in, directly and via your club coach/recruiting coordinator:
-> Are you still looking for a <position> in your 2028 class?
-> Where do I rank on your recruiting board for your 2028 <position> position?
-> What would you want to see from me to consider moving me up your board?
-> Is there enough interest for you to come out and see me perform this fall?
-> Is there enough interest where it would be worth your time and mine for me to come and perform at an upcoming camp? If so, which one(s)?
Step 5 will give you info to more realistically know, not guess or hope, where you stand with the college softball programs you are interested in so you can best channel your focus, time, and money to produce results!
Remember, this is still the very beginning of the Sep 1st phase of your recruiting journey! Stay patient and persistent and it will pay off!
REPOST this if you think it may help someone else! DM me if you have any recruiting questions! Good luck!

As a hitting coach, I watched players come back to the dugout after making an out.
They'd look at me and ask, "What'd you see?"
I'd go through the mechanical stuff like back side collapse, front side energy, head came off the ball. Man, it was wearing me out!
Finally, I realized I needed to simplify.
So the next time a player came back asking what I saw, I just asked him: "Did you get a good pitch to hit?"
That usually stopped the conversation. Because if you don't "get a good pitch to hit," it's hard to get a hit.
This works in our lives too.
Whatever task I take on, I ask myself: Am I putting myself in position to succeed?
Did I eliminate distractions? Did I prepare? Did I practice? Am I ready to produce?
In life, your "good pitch to hit" probably isn't the same as mine.
That's the beauty of it all.
I've swung at some bad pitches in my life... so have you.
But one bad swing doesn't always end the at-bat.
Hitting is a lot like life.
It can be simple, but not easy.

The person that challenges you and holds you accountable loves you more than the person who watches you stay the same and settle for mediocrity.

General thought…. Travel sports are so focused on games / tournaments… I know tons of people who are playing baseball every weekend. It’s crazy.
I wish coaches / programs would focus more on developmental training. I do think games are important but at what cost. Is my kid getting better practicing a few times a week and playing 6 games or is he getting better grinding with Great coaches who focus more on fundamentals and care less about tournaments.
It’s so competitive now so feel like there’s a rush to join teams , etc. I’m a just a big believer hard work wins and the cream eventually always rises to the top.
Soccer the same here ?
This group can do it all! Competition isn’t just an on field thing #RaiseHigh

Here is the scholarship math that no one says out loud. In most college sports, a handful of scholarships are split into fractions across an entire roster. The full ride your family is picturing barely exists outside a few headline sports. A "big offer" is often a quarter of the bill. Now set that beside an academic environment where the aid is need-based and the degree is the asset. Know all the numbers before you fall for one logo.

There are coaches who run 90 minute practices who win. There are coaches who run three hour practices who lose.
There are coaches who work seven hour days who win. There are coaches who work 13 hour days who lose.
Being efficient is important. If you can do it successfully in less time, then do it.
Output > Time spent
Your player’s time matters. Your staff’s time matters too. There is no substitute for hard work but there is nothing more foolish than wasting everyone’s time.
The modern coach has the ability to maximize efficiency by being organized, having vision, increasing tempo, and being succinct without compromising the quality of instruction.

High School and Travel Ball
Players and parents need to realize.
College coaches play the best 7 players regardless of position.
Exception-Catchers are usually catchers.
Most college teams are overflowing with high school shortstops, center fielders and third baseman.
Most of which get moved to different positions in college.
The moral of the story is.
Be Good
Be Versatile
Be Athletic
Be Competitive
Be Strong

Quote from Dr. Andrews! Kids need at least two months off each year to recover from a specific sport. Preferably, three to four months. Example: youth baseball. For at least two months, preferably three to four months, they don’t need to do any kind of overhead throwing, any kind of overhead sport, and let the body recover in order to avoid overuse situations. That’s why we’re seeing so many Tommy John procedures, which is an adult operation designed for professionals. In my practice now, 30 to 40 percent of the ones I’m doing are on high-schoolers, even down to ages 12 or 13. They’re already coming in with torn ligaments. Give them time off to recover.
