In 1962, my grandad Birch ran for office, but there was one problem - nobody knew how to pronounce our name. So his campaign came up with a jingle to help voters remember it. As we approach Election Day, I wanted to bring that tune back and put my own spin on it. My grandad’s example inspired me to believe in the power of public service to make a real difference in people’s lives. He helped pass the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act, authored the constitutional amendment lowering the voting age to 18 so that the young Americans fighting and dying in Vietnam would have a voice in choosing their leaders, and championed Title IX, opening doors for generations of women in college athletics. I’m proud to carry on that tradition of service in my own way.

President Trump inherited a strong labor market from President Biden. Since his inauguration, average monthly job creation has fallen dramatically: from 122k/month in 2024 to 33k/month in 2025-26.

JUST IN: A surprisingly bad job report. The US economy LOST -23,000 jobs in July (way below expectations of +80k). May and June were revised DOWN by a combined -103,000. Unemployment rate: 4.1% ->This went down for the WRONG reasons. Over 260,000 left the labor force Wage growth: 3.2% -->this is entirely wiped out by inflation

TODAY is Election Day! I’ve talked a lot about how Virginia’s approach to redistricting is different. It’s temporary, it’s responsive to other states, but most importantly — it’s up to YOU. Find your polling location at IWillVote.com/VA and join me in voting YES!

What Donald Trump has spent on his war in just 3 weeks is what it would have cost to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits for 1 year.

Democrats lost young men by 14 points in 2024. That’s not a messaging problem — it’s a relationship problem. And we need to fix it. Going live with @racheljanfaza on Substack at 11:30am ET/8:30am PT to dig in. Join us: substack.com/@theupandup/not…

The President's reckless policies are making life more expensive for American families. Yet Republicans in Congress remain unwilling to stand up to him. The American people deserve better.

Trump has failed to bring down health care costs. Thanks to his refusal to extend health care subsidies, Americans are going without insurance as premiums spiked this year. #SOTU

Trump’s “$18 trillion” investment figure remains a lie. The White House’s own website says, right now, that there’ve been $9.7 trillion in “major investment announcements” during this Trump term (whitehouse.gov/investments/ )…and my detailed review in the fall found even that White House figure is a massive exaggeration - counting a bunch of vague pledges, non-pledges, and pledges about bilateral trade rather than investment.: cnn.com/2025/10/11/politics/…

Fox: A new poll found that 64% are against Trump's tariffs. Is this a losing proposition for Trump? 90% of the tariffs have been passed on to American consumers and businesses.
