The Conservatives have pledged to end the childcare support cliff-edge, where if a parent earns 1p over £100,000 they lose it. They're right, cliff edges are crap (tapers are better) though I'll leave the limit for the politicians to debate.
Hence why the Carer's allowance cliff-edge needs to go to. I hope they'll support that as well, as its also a perverse incentive that disincentives work and is bad for the individual and the economy.
There if an unpaid Carer caring 35hrs+ a week, earns 1p over £204/wk net limit, they lose all the £86 allowance. A terrible system.
While I'm at it:
- The effective 'single highest earner' measure is used in child benefit as well as tax-free and funded childcare. Its unfair for single parent, single earner and dominant earner families, who may get less or nowt when neighbours with far higher combined earnings

- Tax-free childcare is misnamed it's a top up not tax free. It should be called the working family childcare top-up then it does what it says on the tin!

I've repeatedly explained to this guy that the State Pension is a contributory welfare benefit and NI is tax, not payments into a pension scheme. So have others. He refuses to listen and continues to spread misinformation.
It is incredibly hard to get people to understand the State Pension when they think "welfare" means getting something for nothing.
This cannot be stressed enough. The State Pension is not ‘welfare’. It is, as Mark says, based on a contract and people paying in accordingly. And far from being ‘unaffordable’ the National Insurance Fund had a surplus of nearly £80bn last year. Something that the ‘axe the Triple Lock’ brigade never mention.
