ANTHROPIC SAYS IT HAS ACQUIRED MITHRIL MEDICINE TO RUN RARE DISEASE PROGRAMS, ADDING THAT IT WANTS TO SHARE ITS MODELS WITH DRUG DEVELOPMENT RESEARCHERS AND AS MANY RESEARCHERS AS POSSIBLE, AND THAT IT LOOKS FORWARD TO WORKING WITH MORE ORGANIZATIONS

When genome editing got going, the ability to trace a mammalian embryo's development to organ generation in exquisite detail was not envisioned. Now it's been accomplished by 2 independent groups. $NVS signs a $7.8B+ deal with 🇨🇳 Abogen Biosciences to advance mRNA-encoded therapeutics, including an in vivo CD19xCD3 T-cell engager for autoimmune diseases. abogenbio.com/news/company/n… 💰 Deal terms: • $575M upfront • Up to ~$7.2B in potential milestone payments if all options are exercised • Potential royalties on future product sales • Exclusive worldwide license to lead asset ABO2203 • Options to exclusively license additional programs from Abogen’s RNA platform ABO2203 is an mRNA-encoded CD19xCD3 T-cell engager. Abogen says ABO2203 is the first mRNA-encoded T-cell engager to enter clinical evaluation for autoimmune diseases. Founded around RNA innovation, Abogen has an AI- and automation-driven mRNA/LNP platform. Its pipeline covers oncology, autoimmune diseases and vaccines, including ABO1108, a lyophilized mRNA shingles vaccine in Phase 3 trials in China.

Amazing stat: Moderna is 64% of the $78.8B net dollar gain across all 541 companies in biotech since Aug 5th. The other 541 companies lost $26.8B between them. 319 of the 541 lost value.

If you take claims made in research papers and see when they're overturned or modified, you can analyze the half-life of science. An interesting way to measure progress

A midyear update on key #biotech indicators that have cycled from multidecade washout extremes a year & a qtr ago, to multiyear buy-in of a now recognized trend: 1 - Pct of Bios above their 50-dma is at 78%, up from 1% in April 2025 low. 2-Pct of Bios above their 200-dma is a more modest 67% up from 9% in April 2025. This usually hits 75%-80% near reversals. 3-Pct within 5% of 1-yr lows is 2%, down from a historic 61% in April 2025. 4-Pct of bios within 5% of a 1-yr high is 34%, a multiyear high reading, and very healthy bull market-like. $XBI $IBB

Autonomous science promises to augment scientific discovery, but current LLMs tend to mode collapse into low-diversity generations. We introduce “Unlocking LLM Creativity in Science through Analogical Reasoning”, which uses analogies to generate better candidate solutions! [1/N]

Excited to share our discovery of a new programmable RNA-guided DNA-targeting system hiding inside bacteriophages that predates CRISPR. We call it VIPR (Viral Interference Programmable Repeat), and it uses an entirely new logic to find its targets. Thread + link below.
