Local Radio.
Of course not, because the BBC continue to cut it.

The poster in the article for the 1993 Local Radio marketing campaign is a real landmark moment. How many LR marketing campaigns can you remember since ? In 33 years, very few in my memory.

RADIO : Radio's in massively rude health. So why is the BBC intent on marginalising it?

BBC destroyed local radio, and are continuing this in the new year by removing more local / regional shows & presenters with R5. At a time government are telling people to buy radios, BBC are determined to remove all local radio with national shows.

Local radio should be a feeding ground for national radio stations. Instead the BBC pay extortionate sums to so called celebrities to spin a few records and talk a lot of crap. Many good broadcasters started their careers at Radio Leicester but sadly now many seem to end it there

So badly mismanaged. Deliberate destruction so they can flog off the 39 local radio buildings. It was always the plan. The BBC is running out of assets to sell to prop up the telly tax. BBC Radio London had nearly a million listeners in 2001. Today it’s 388k.

Sadly more cuts about to hit what’s left of BBC Local Radio - more regionalisation planned and Newsgathering cut to the bone.
One might ask - Where’s @ofcom in all of this?

Local radio used to be the “front door to the BBC.” Unfortunately many are now
taking the back door.

Good to see some Local Stations like Merseyside
doing well.
Overall, however, the picture is clear,
BBC Local Radio is in badly managed
decline. With further ill judged cuts coming early
next year, the future is bleak.
Every Senior Manager wielding the axe should
be ashamed.

These figures speak for themselves, and this is by no means the only BBC Local Radio station facing similar today. No reflection on the news and programme teams working harder than ever - this one's on the 'management' who are destroying BBC LR with death by a thousand cuts

Sad to see BBC Radio Leicester’s audience take a dive to 90k listeners a week. That’s what happens when you systematically dismantle BBC Local Radio. 7 years ago it had 142k listeners. Grim.
