Suella Braverman £45,000 for water bills alone.
Esther McVey, where do we start.
It's MPs expenses that need to be curtailed. It's absolutely obscene what some of them are claiming.

🚨Conservative shadow minister’s nearly £2 MILLION expenses bill draws scrutiny
Helen Whately, the Conservatives’ Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, has claimed almost £2 million in parliamentary expenses over the past decade. These payments come from the public purse—funded by the taxes of ordinary hard-working people. Most of the total covers staff salaries, but around £300,000 relates to her own travel and accommodation, even though she lives roughly 50 miles from London in Kent.
Party leader Kemi Badenoch claims £2,700 a month toward rent on a six-bedroom farmhouse in her Essex constituency, within the rules for an MP with three children. She has also faced claims she once sought taxpayer funding for a family holiday flight, which officials refused.
Critics say the sums sit uncomfortably beside Conservative calls to tighten welfare; supporters note the claims follow standard IPSA rules for MPs

This woman is now the shadow minister in charge of more vulnerable people, for her party - people on welfare. Whomever made the decision to do that, needs to reverse that decision. Whately should never be in charge of vulnerable people ever again.
Piers Morgan - Is it true that 4000 people have died in care homes, yes or no?... why are you laughing?.. what's the matter with you?
Helen Whately(care minister) - I'm not laughing
Piers Morgan - I just asked you if 4000 elderly people have died & all you can do is laugh

This is an extraordinarily disingenuous post from @Helen_Whately.
Let's be absolutely clear about what she's comparing here.
This isn't someone simply signed off sick.
To reach that £27,400 figure, the claimant would need to qualify for substantial disability support, including enhanced PIP for both daily living and mobility, alongside Universal Credit health support and thousands in housing assistance.
We're talking about someone with significant disability-related needs, not your average person off work with a sick note.
And PIP isn't even an unemployment benefit. You can receive it while working!
But here's where we should flip the argument...
If SIX MILLION full-time workers are earning less than this carefully constructed example, why isn't Whately asking why millions of people are being paid so little?
Why aren't we talking about employers paying poverty wages, the soaring cost of housing, or an economy in which working full-time increasingly fails to deliver financial security?
And why aren't we scrutinising the extraordinary concentration of wealth at the top, rather than attacking some of the most vulnerable people in society?
It's far easier to turn struggling workers against disabled people than to confront the economic system that's failing them both.
That's the real scandal here.
Shocking new report from @csjthinktank
To earn more than someone on sickness benefits you now need to make £33,000. That’s more than 50 hours a week on minimum wage – and 6 million hardworking taxpayers are earning less.
Under this Labour government Benefit Street is booming. Only the Conservatives have a plan to tackle this crisis and get Britain working again.

Joe, have you actually read the research, or are you just hoping nobody checks the dates?
The international comparison you’re referring to matches research published by the Institute for Fiscal Studies in September 2024, covering 2019–2023/24.
During that period, UK working-age disability benefit claims rose by 39% and incapacity benefit claims by 28%.
Remind me, Joe, who was running the country throughout those years? Because it certainly wasn’t Labour.
And since you’re so keen on international comparisons, let’s compare healthcare investment too.
The Health Foundation identified a £33 BILLION shortfall in UK healthcare capital investment between 2010 and 2019 compared with similar European countries.
Meanwhile, the Conservatives presided over a PPE VIP lane that gave politically referred suppliers preferential access to procurement.
So rather than blaming disabled people and a government that inherited these problems, perhaps you could explain what your own party was doing for 14 years.
You’re an elected MP. The absolute minimum we should expect is that you understand the dates and figures you’re quoting.
Blaming Labour in 2026 for trends documented under your own government isn’t an economic argument.
It’s an attempt to rewrite history, and unfortunately for you, the research still has its publication date attached.
Lessons from yesterday ?
1. This division is dire
2. Udders were too
3. Defo pen however it was given
But the biggy.
Time to make the difficult decision and change the manager . Very sad but we have to do what’s right for our club . End of

Tory MP Helen Whately is a millionaire on a £98,599/yr salary. Yet taxpayers cover her London second home expenses. Council Tax, water, electric, everything! Meanwhile, she wants to cut benefits for disabled people living on just £7k to £11k a year. Look how much she claims....

Let's cut Whately's wages and expenses instead. We pay her rent, her mortgage, her council tax, her expenses and energy bills. Let's stop doing that.
