Also, I strongly dislike the "move out to move up" attitude, especially from people in upper level positions. If it's assumed I'm going to leave, my voice and actions become devalued in my current position.

My most bonded team regularly played informal sports and games together, pro staff & students together: racquetball, pickleball, water polo, basketball... Taking time during the day to play together made for a healthy, happy team.

I struggle when places prioritize Policy > People, especially when the policy was created because one person took advantage of something at some point. Give me the responsibility and freedom to do my job. Period.

#RecChat A11: Professional. If you can come home satisfied with work, it's infinitely better than worrying about your job satisfaction after hours.

A4: the people- a LOT! The people I work with more so than the job. If I am working with good people, then my job satisfaction is going to be met and could be hard, but still fulfilling.

#RecChat A4: The people and the job need to align with what you are striving for, so very important. I would want a position where I felt supported and doing things I can enjoy.

We CAN transfer to any career with the skills we develop in campus rec. The field really requires you to move out to move up, which will limit people the longer they are in. Then you’ll get burned out doing the same day and night responsibilities over and over and over again.

Some of us try to get back in, but can’t which I think is sadder.

There are way too many factors to place blame on Campus Rec itself. This is a grander, HIGHER ed problem and how college highly favors a business model versus educational model.

#RecChat A11: Lots of side-by-side work in those roles. Working with others to forward a common goal builds lots of bonds.
