whenever someone brings up using AI for creative work, I think about this
what we create also creates us

HOT TAKE: If you're having a bad viewer experience due to ads on Twitch, it's because the streamer hasn't bothered to put in the effort to make the experience as seamless as possible for their non-subbed viewers. Viewers don't dislike ads. They dislike being blindsided.
SOLUTION: If you stream & have two monitors, open stream manager on your 2nd monitor. Crop out and create a display capture in OBS of the ad timer and place it at the bottom corner of your stream. Now, you will run a 3-minute ad every hour, and the timer will count down from 63:00. Once 60:00 appears, for the next hour, NOBODY currently watching you or joining in will see an ad.
This allows your audience see when another ad break is coming and nobody is blindsided or afraid of missing something. This does requires you to not have a fickle audience and to actually trust your chat because when the timer hits 0:00, chat need to inform you (I recommend making a command) so you can pause the content and run another 3-minute ad. During the break, you can use the restroom, have a snack, stretch your legs, read donations, etc., and your chatters can do the same before content resumes.
SOURCE: Me. I've been using this method since 2022 and I've NEVER had a complaint about ads or running them. In fact, I constantly get praised for how considerate, organized, and seamless it is. And based on my CCV, I also make about $200-$300 per month from ads. Please do this, your chat deserves it.

i hate AI as much as the next guy, but i'm kinda over the 'if we let it win no one will ever make art ever again' rhetoric. People make music drumming on the counter while waiting for their coffee, art in crude maps drawn on napkins for strangers. At no point in history ->

Consuming art is akin to entering an art museum, looking at a piece and going “Well, that's a painting.” then walking out. Engaging in art looks more like perceiving that same piece of art and asking, “Who painted this? What's the story behind this? Who's in the painting?”

The best way to explain media illiteracy is: people don't engage with art anymore, they strictly consume it. Nobody wants to read into a character's complexity, if someone didn't like the ending to a show suddenly the entire series was terrible; you want to look, not connect.

At least one of the reasons i'm so strongly outspoken about social issues now is because 10 years ago i used to be part of a typical bro friend group. The way we talked was rarely outright hateful but absolutely laced with casual misogyny. Seeing women at least subconsciously as the lesser gender and things like using gay and the german f-slur as synonyms for unmanly and undesired behavior. If you had asked us if we were sexist or homophobic we'd all have denied it and excused it as "Harmless jokes". Although we totally upheld the system that a few steps further up gets really nasty, dangerous and violent really quickly.
I said bullshit i'd now call someone out for.
I had not ever thought about trans people, but i have a suspicion that current me would like to punch past me in the face for the dumb shit that i would have blabbered out in an attempt to make up a cool sounding opinion on the spot, that proves my manhood.
I slowly left that friend group cus i no longer felt like i belonged in it. The active reflection on why i felt that way only came later.
I know what it's like to be a stereotypical straight cis man that could have just continued, because the patriarchy protects and even encourages this grunt behavior.
That went along out of peer pressure and never actually did some introspection on whether all this aligns with his deeply held views or how it affects others. Just pathetic, unreflected behavior out of some miserable interpretation of self preservation.
That's why i can point this out so clearly now.
That's why i care so much.
I've been there.
I know how much societal pressures can keep you in your lane.
And how exposing myself to other viewpoints chipped away at this enough to start questioning my own behavior. How freeing that is.
I wanna be one of those viewpoints. A point of friction in the Apex/FPS space.
If i can push even a few people onto their journey towards being a kinder and more considerable human then all the pandering and virtue signaling i get accused of was worth it.
