The difference between the American Revolution and the others is that it wasn't really a revolution; it was a secession.
So yes, we're still reactionaries even though we're happy with independence from Britain.
You can tell where people sit politically by which revolutions they approve of.
American, French and Russian Revolution good = communist.
American and French Revolution good, Russian Revolution bad = liberal.
American Revolution good, other revolutions bad = conservative.
All revolutions bad = reactionary.

A popular republic coming undone due to the unbounded passion for equality? If only people had predicted that.
What feels like a big shift in liberalism in my lifetime -- maybe it's always been this way? -- is the progression from, "we should help the people at the bottom" to "every single person deserves the same as anybody else." I'm enough of a bleeding heart for the first thing, but the second thing is absurd.

Republicans will say things like this, but then do absolutely nothing to prevent the Marxists from gaining power. If they really believed it, or if they cared enough to stop it, they'd be preparing to seal the far left out of power- permanently.
But they don't.
Which leaves us with two options; either they are lying and the rhetoric is just an election ploy, or they are so committed to "democracy" that they are willing to watch their country be destroyed just so they can say they stood on principle.
Either one makes them unfit to rule.

Leon Czolgosz, the assassin of President William McKinley was executed by electric chair.
Czolgosz, a self described anarchist, assassinated McKinley because of perceived injustices against "the working people".
Unable to come to terms with his own personal failures he was possessed by the spirit of bitterness, hatred and resentment. You can see this same spirit manifested in modern socialists.

The First Amendment is repeatedly violated without consequence in the social media age. Stories and posts are constantly censored at the request of the government.
The Second Amendment has been obsolete since the Civil War. Since then, no militia has been able to challenge the federal government.
The Third Amendment is obsolete with modern logistic chains.
The Fourth Amendment is repeatedly violated without consequence in the information age. The Patriot Act alone was a massive violation, but there was no stopping the mass surveillance.
The Fifth, Sixth, and Eighth Amendments are routinely violated in high profile cases without consequence.
The Tenth Amendment is routinely trampled on by the doctrine of Federal Supremacy.
The Constitution has been defeated numerous times. We no longer care for the rights it enumerates.

We need to wake up. This *is* democracy. Democracy is a selection method of who should rule, not a set of morals of how they should rule. It self-selects for the most ambitious, manipulative, and unscrupulous people in a country, and entrusts them to uphold decency. It then legitimizes itself via the support of the most easily fooled, and tyrannizes the rest.
