Cllrs speaking about Public Libraries in terms of ‘best value’ makes my heart sink, it should never be applied to a statutory public service.

Hi @UKLabour @lisanandy what are you doing to protect Public Libraries and Public Library Workers from cuts?

UNISON Dudley General retweeted
Solidarity with library workers and Islington @UNISONinLG opposing cuts to the libraries budget.
Our libraries are there for all to use. They promote the joy of reading - and provide a welcoming and warm space for so many people. Once you lose a library, you never get it back!

When Dudley Council tried to cut funding for libraries in the Borough, Islington branch were some of the strongest supporters of our campaign to keep them open.
Now it looks like it's time for all of us to return that solidarity – at Dudley, England

As the Unison Rep for Islington Libraries I totally oppose the Council’s plans to make £1m cuts and to shoe-horn other cut services in with libraries.
I will fight tooth & nail to protect this crucial statutory service.

The vast majority of library users need/want;
Trained & knowledgeable staff.
A wide & deep collection of books.
Buildings that are accessible and welcoming and are easily recognisable as Public Libraries.
Libraries that are open when they need/want them.
Simples 🤷

One positive and highly beneficial thing that @andyburnham could do right now is to reverse the cuts made to Public Libraries since 2010.
Public Libraries are a crucial statutory service that are a lifeline to the poor, vulnerable and socially isolated.

Labour ‘planning to bring back employment tribunal fees’
UNISON: "The government shouldn’t even be considering bringing fees back. This would completely undermine all that’s in the [Employment Rights] bill and be a victory for unscrupulous bosses.’

UNISON would like to disagree with the idea that the misuse of CCTV in Dudley Children's Services only came to light in August.
Council managers have known about it since March. More details facebook.com/share/p/1FfHgaK…

UNISON has serious concerns about @dudleymbc's Children's Services, where we have been told that CCTV has been used to listen to conversations between employees without their knowledge or permission.
This would be a breach of our members’ rights to privacy.
