The biggest illusion sold to the middle class is that capitalism gives everyone an equal opportunity to become rich if they work hard enough.
Look beyond the slogans. Capitalism rewards ownership of capital far more than the sale of labour. The wealthy own businesses, assets, land and financial instruments. The middle class largely depends on salaries, savings and investments to build wealth.
And wealth doesn't move in a straight line. It moves in cycles.
During periods of abundance, easy credit, rising asset prices and economic expansion, wealth spreads across society. More people participate, take risks and accumulate assets.
But when the cycle reverses, the rules change. Inflation erodes purchasing power. Recessions threaten jobs. Debt becomes expensive. Asset prices collapse. Leveraged investors are forced to sell. Those who depend on salaries and savings often suffer the most, while those with liquidity and access to capital can buy distressed assets at discounted prices.
This is how wealth concentration can accelerate through economic cycles.
The system doesn't necessarily need everyone to remain poor, but it does reward those who own capital disproportionately over those who depend entirely on labour.
The biggest mistake the middle class makes is believing that hard work alone will protect its wealth.
Understand capital rotation. Understand liquidity. Understand who owns the assets and who is forced to sell when the cycle turns.
Because the people who own the ladder are not necessarily playing the same game as those trying to climb it.
BE READY FOR THE SHIFT.

I honestly don’t know if the government will undertake any tax reforms for the capital markets.
If they do so at all, the changes should benefit local investors as well, not only foreign investors.
We are not lesser mortals.
Indian retail investors take risks even with small amounts of capital.
In a capital starved nation, risk capital should be rewarded regardless of whether it comes from foreign or local sources.

Akash Prakash is a neutral commentator.
When he explains why FIIs have lost interest in India, it is worth listening.
FIIs are now much less convinced about India’s growth story.
Unless the Finance Ministry makes substantial structural changes in capital markets, including taxation, there is no clear trigger right now to attract foreign capital.

Growing up, I too was brainwashed into believing that India was always a righteous nation, surrounded by powerful enemies like Pakistan and China.
That narrative continues today.
Instead of confronting corruption, nepotism, environmental destruction, crumbling infrastructure, and a failing mass education system, we turn a blind eye.
And anyone who dares point out these uncomfortable truths is dismissed as “jealous,” “ignorant,” or worse, “anti-national.”
Patriotism is not blind loyalty. True patriotism is having the courage to confront what is wrong with your country so you can make it better.

Yes sir, you’re missing the most important factor - patriotism.
Nothing is expensive when patriotism is involved. Zomato (Eternal) isn’t just a company that delivers biryani and frozen parathas
It is a cutting-edge IT powerhouse that is transforming the lives of millions of Indians. It is liberating young engineers from the soul-crushing 9-to-5 grind at Infosys and Wipro, where starting salaries are often lower and the only thing you’re optimising is your resignation letter for the next phase of personal growth.
Zomato is freedom. It lets it's customers stay in the comfort of one's home and enjoy everything without ever having to worry about broken roads, potholes, traffic jams, or the complete absence of civic sense outside.
Why go out and deal with reality when the app can bring the entire city to your doorstep?
As Samuel Johnson wisely said, “Patriotism is the last refuge of a fool.” In this case, it is also the last refuge of a 610x valuation.

It's punishment for doing business in India.
What do you expect?

2- A political leader who tells you whom to pray to
3- A NRI who tells you about patriotism

The most disturbing aspect of this government is the glaring absence of credible voices with expertise in finance, economics or the stock market who can explain the situation, address public concerns and restore investors’ confidence.
With lakhs of crores in market wealth being wiped out, FIIs relentlessly selling, investors losing money, the rupee weakening and controversies like ethanol adding to the uncertainty, who is accountable for explaining what is going wrong with the economy?
People deserve answers, not silence. They deserve transparency, clarity and accountability—not a complete communication vacuum when confidence is eroding and wealth is being destroyed.
A fool can say/do anything.
She is just a rubber stamp.
No marks for guessing who the real culprits are.
In 2022, FM Nirmala Sitharaman praised retail investors as the shock absorbers protecting Indian markets from external selling pressure.
In 2026, as Indian markets struggle to deliver returns and foreign investors continue withdrawing capital, the FM cites easy liquidity as one of the reasons for underperformance.
But isn't the more important question why investors are choosing to exit in the first place?
The FM continues to maintain that India's economic fundamentals remain strong.
If the fundamentals are strong, why aren't they translating into market returns? What is driving foreign investors away?
And how can investor confidence be restored without adequately addressing the reasons behind their exit?
