A short thread on Weird Things Doctors Say to Patients.
Going to leave it here in case I want to add to it later.

Unable to sleep cos I'm thinking how redundant the doctor's cliche "you can't see pain on an MRI" is.
No, but you can see damage, bleeding, inflammation, lesions and structural abnormalities.
I don't need you to see my pain. I can feel it. I know where it is.

i got diagnosed with eds at ~15 and pots at ~14, mcas at ~17. ive watched over the years as they turned from a largely unknown overlapping group of illnesses that i had to fight every waking moment to get help for, to internet "buzzwords" that mean "fake disabled". its disgusting

So odd how we're not calling years of below-inflation pay rises "quiet paycutting"

When I started working I used to get a bonus, thank you payment at Christmas, bank Holiday time and a half if worked and paid if taken off, canteen with a cooked lunch now all gone. Bosses constantly look for ways to give staff the bare minimum so should expect the same in return

I remember years ago talking to someone on here who told me her M.E symptoms were blamed on Tim Henman losing at Wimbledon. Her name was Kay that's all I remember.
If you think that's laughable you haven't met many psychiatrists.

I think Doctors really need to start from a place where they recognise how much they get wrong. Saying ‘we care too much’ gives real ‘my only weakness is perfectionism’ vibes.
You could even ask patients if that isn’t too beneath you!

A Housing Association offered someone that escaped a block fire, temporary accommodation opposite Grenfell Tower.
You’re telling me not a single person considered the impact that may have on them?
It's disturbing to think that a world famous athlete can be raising awareness of the mistreatment and neglect of people with #MyalgicEncephalomyelitis on national television while at the same time another severely ill #pwME is being denied lifesaving treatment in an NHS hospital.

It still amazes me how I was labeled a hypochondriac by doctors and psychiatrists, only to develop actual heart failure and vascular disease years later.
Now, those very same doctors tell me nothing can be done anymore, and the psychiatrist barely even apologized.

They seem to be getting around NICE guidelines by disputing the diagnosis itself, but it’s telling that why they say she’s ill (basically illness beliefs) is exactly what they used to say about ME patients. This looks like a strategy to circumnavigate NICE to me.

Excellent. Because of public pressure and boycott.
But the Australian government won't. Because donors and lobbyists.

Wow!!! Pediatrician Dr. Maria Bea Merscher Alves delivers a fiery, visibly pissed-off speech condemning the ongoing neglect of children with ME.
We need all doctors, scientists, and politicians to speak out like this!!

Well done @BethDobbin on @GMB - you’re 💯 right - what has happened with #MECFS is absolutely outrageous. A neuro-immune condition that has been incorrectly psychopathologised and as a result has received hardly any research funding #greatestMEdicalscandal

Hi everyone, hope you’re doing well. I’m reaching out to ask for support for this GoFundMe. This cause is important and whether you can donate or simply share the fundraiser, every little bit helps and is greatly appreciated. Here’s the link:

Many employers feel they should own hearts, minds, social time etc. when they are only paying for labour within set hours.

When people refer to ME as “historically inappropriately psychologised” I think that has an overly optimistic air about it.

“… hospital continues to refuse the syringe driver granted to palliative care patients. Savannah is labelled as difficult because she daren’t waste energy speaking to psychologists (who at QE Hospital suggested her physical challenges are due to e.g. “being the middle child”).”
Update on Savannah. I have no words, except to echo the last line, "Do we all have to be Olympian to be believed?"
