Remarks by HE President Nechircan Barzani @IKRPresident, President of the Kurdistan Region, emphasizes justice, support and a better future for Ezidi survivors of ISIS crimes.
His Excellency welcomed the launch of the "Survivors Rise Network" funded & supported by @YazdaOrg & @giz_gmbh as an important step towards empowering survivors to participate in decisions affecting their rights and future.
Listening to survivors voices and involving them in decisions concerning their lives and rights are essential to achieving justice and upholding their dignity. Survivors deserve justice, recognition, and the opportunity to shape their own future, rather than being defined forever by the genocide they endured.
The success of the “Survivors Rise Network” will therefore contribute to broader efforts to promote justice, reconciliation, and lasting peace.

Some of the topics discussed included global experiences in the process of prosecuting denial of the crime of genocide, protection of freedom of expression, and the issue of hate speech and the culture of impunity.
The PCRC's Project Director, @tatjana677, moderated the panel entitled "From legal inaction to the culture of impunity and denial". The panel included @honoregatera, director, @KigaliMemorial, Zlatan Hajlovac, project manager, @ProPeace Bosnia and Herzegovina, @natianavrouzov, executive director, @YazdaOrg, @suljagicemir1, director, @SrebrenicaMC, Christoph Thonfeld, deputy director and director of the research department, #KZDachau. The panelists spoke about the perspectives of survivors in the process of preventing the culture of impunity and about the role of memorial institutions and civil society in this process. The importance of legal measures against the denial of genocide and war crimes was emphasized. The panel discussed the role of education of future generations as a method of prevention and guarantee of non-repetition.
The conference was organized by the @OHR_BiH and the @NurembergAcadem, in cooperation with @Trial in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and was supported by the British Embassy in Sarajevo, the @AustriainBIH and the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ).

Today, we honor the Yezidi people, who endured the 2014 ISIS genocide and continue to be targeted due to their faith. Despite their suffering, discrimination persists. The fight for justice and equality isn't over. We must protect all religious and ethnic minorities in Iraq.
How many more “𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘨𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘴” must be torn from their families, trafficked into sexual slavery, and scarred by the senseless brutality of war, before we take decisive action?
How many “𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘨𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘴” must address this Council before their calls to action are heard and heeded and we end – once and for all – the ancient trilogy of wartime terror: looting, pillage and rape.
Silence is complicity. Action is overdue.
