In 2022, the then Army Vice Chief described Agnipath as a well-thought-out pilot project, adding that tweaks could be introduced after 4–5 years, if required.
Four years later, the Modi government has done exactly that.
Acting on the Defence Forces' recommendations and feedback from veterans, officials and troops, the Cabinet has approved a 2-year Second Tour of Duty for Agniveers.
Here's what changes:
– 75% of Agniveers completing the first four years will be eligible for a second two-year tour. The existing 25% regular induction provision remains.
– ₹43,500 and ₹47,500 monthly pay in the first and second years respectively, plus allowances.
– ₹10.92 lakh tax-free Seva Nidhi corpus, with the government's contribution increased to 70% (excluding interest).
– 100% offered regular enrolment after six years, subject to willingness and eligibility criteria.
– Voluntary exit option after 4 or 6 years.
A pilot project, reviewed after four years, with changes informed by operational experience. Agnipath evolves with the needs of the Armed Forces.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered an immediate freeze on the November salary of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Ashwini Bhide and other civic officials while initiating contempt of court proceedings against her for failing to clear encroachments from government land.
The three-judge bench also rejected the civic body's request for an additional 30 days to comply with its earlier directions to clear the land earmarked for a Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus station in Mumbai's Borivali and imposed costs of Rs 5 lakh.

I don't think his ouster is due to off-field issues. The shot he played in the second innings of the Mumbai Test against New Zealand must have infuriated the team management, the same way Rishabh Pant's shot in the Guwahati Test against South Africa did (this is not an insight or anything. Might be totally wrong but just my feeling)

When you are not being selected, why not try something different? He has stayed in his comfort zone .

This is exactly why I am bullish about India.
As I have keep saying, I am witnessing things that would have been considered impossible in the 90s.
When I was growing up, the default assumption was that every single thing in India is a shittier version of its foreign counterpart.
That is changing - bit by bit, piece by piece, product by product.
Here is a guy from Japan talking about how the metro in Pune is cleaner and quieter than the metro in Tokyo.
As India grows, the current Tier 2 cities will look and feel more developed than the current Tier 1 cities, as they are starting off cleaner and greener.
By the way, this is the Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) metro at 11PM.
Infinitely better than the Berlin metro at 11 PM.
