For my American friends, rough explanation of what happens in Poland. Basically, the right wing president wants to pull of McConnell and deny the supreme court seats to justices nominated by the Sejm (Congress in Poland).

In Poland, president doesn't have the role in the judge nomination other than ceremonial. He refuses to accept the oath of the judges. The Chief Justice who was just suspended for the month is pro right wing party and was supporting the McConnelling of the judges

So, the most senior judge (based on the years in the overall court system) out of the newly nominated group, took the mantle of the chief justice and locked the supreme court building. President cancelled his trip to Africa. And now we wait

IMO - The only differences that matter are in the data sets and the future data sets a company can create. From discovery to manufacturability, AI biotechs still have to deliver products. Differentiated products are made in differentiated labs via novel learning loops.
AI will be hugely impactful but I haven’t yet heard a convincing answer to the question of what differentiates an “AI” drug devt company from everyone else when we all have access to AI and new models are evolving so quickly. On a related note, @LifeSciVC has a nice piece today on near-term impacts of AI (eg overcrowding around validated targets). lifescivc.com/2026/10/the-fr…

mfw >biology is just a data problem >collect enough omics, simulate the whole cell >read about humanin >peptide encoded inside the mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene >the same sequence is also a structural part of the ribosome >24 aa if the cytosol translates it, 21 aa if the mitochondria do >because mitochondria run a different genetic code >and start translation with N-formylmethionine instead of plain methionine >nobody's fully sure which one actually makes it >also 13 nuclear copies that might make their own versions >gets secreted into the blood >hits cell-surface receptors >one of them is literally a mitochondria detector >also gets taken back up >binds Bax inside the cell to block apoptosis >discovered by screening surviving brain tissue from an alzheimer's patient >open my cell model schema >compartment: yes >molecule_type: rRNA, peptide, hormone >length: depends who's asking

For our immune systems, the biological version of this (against natural pathogens) is called a Tuesday.
Not an ai apocalypse doomer or whatever, but entering a world where the normal operation of cybersecurity is vast swarms of hacker bots battling vast swarms of defender bots 24/7 at a scale beyond human comprehension doesn't seem like a *great* path forward.

Thought you were done with Night City? Well, Night City isn't quite done with you. Patch notes for Cyberpunk 2077’s Edgerunners 2 Update (2.5) are now available for you to ready up and review before going live on the streets tomorrow. Jack in: cp2077.ly/2.5_Patch_Notes

I wondered if this was normal, and I was only noticing it all now that I'm paying more attention haha. Glad to see it's considered atypical (for now)!
ai x bio just had a ridiculous 48 hours: - Omnii-1: AI-designed phage given to a patient - Claude designed scorpion toxin binders - OpenAI acquires Orchestra Bio - Baker Lab: RFD4-Proteina - Chaperone: agent framework for protein design - BioEmu2: protein simulations - Artios: enzyme design model - OpenAI + PerturbAI: agents find brain disease clues - Xaira X-Scientist anything missing?

Excellent take
Of course the flying Tesla Roadster is a gimmick but that sort of misses the point, the tech flex behind it isn't. Tesla's bulk business is about advanced technology from EV to self drive, but decided to create the most ridiculous manual drive supercar. Supercars are a gimmick, almost by definition, based on how wild can you make them. The gimmick that can make the car literally fly, briefly, can make it corner like no other supercar and accelerate, literally like a dragster on a test track. It's got nothing to do with flying continuously, but having a car that will outperform every Lambo, Ferrari or McLaren with technology that they cannot replicate because it requires experience from space launches and computation that they don't have now nor will in future. So Porsche, Bugatti, Aston Martin just became legacy prestige brands, like Rolex, Richard Mille or Patek Philippe. These cars celebrate the bygone age and the baroque, physical complexity of the internal combustion engine just as mechanical watches do for non digital, complex time-keeping mechanisms. But hey won't be faster anymore than a mechanical watch keeps better time than a Casio. They are now, de facto, mobile jewelry and no longer supercars with superlative performance. And this affects their ability to market the bulk business of mainstream European internal combustion engine cars. It's the end of an era of industrial era manufacturing.

So let me get this straight: Russia gives Iran intelligence to help target and kill U.S. soldiers. As a result, we help Russia kill Ukrainians who are fighting for their survival against those same Russians. Did I miss anything?
“Elon Musk approached Donald Trump with the idea of slowing down Starlink in Ukraine, The Telegraph can reveal. The billionaire tech entrepreneur approached the US president with the proposal to introduce speed limits on the system, which hampered Ukraine’s drone defences, according to four sources familiar with the discussions. One of the sources said Mr Trump “agreed” with Mr Musk’s suggestion, paving the way for the Pentagon to execute the slowdown on Starshield, the military-grade version of the satellite communications system.

I promise this isn’t cope; I expect and want AI to speed up bio discovery. But we really really need to figure out how to identify and scale fast experimental validation in biology to take advantage of vastly better reasoning models
We’re releasing a broad range of new mathematical results produced by an internal frontier model. We’ve been consulting with the independent Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence at the Institute for Advanced Study, and we have drawn on their advice and public recommendations to inform how we release these results. github.com/openai/math

It’s true, we have been here before! But I think what it reveals is even more interesting. In Sverdlovsk, declassified docs demonstrate the US knew pretty much what happened immediately when USSR had a huge accident in an illegal anthrax production facility. US diplomats happily
Replying to @ashishkjha
We've been here before. In 1979, anthrax spores escaped a Soviet military facility in Sverdlovsk. At least 66 people died. It took years become public This was all in the old era -- before AI and biological engineering capabilities became widespread

Meet Mistral Large 4, aka Le Chonk. • 1T parameters, natively multimodal. 49B active. It is the best open weights model from US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks. • State-of-the-art on critical workloads, including cyber defense, manufacturing and finance and it surpasses closed frontier models on visual grounding. • Forged in Europe end-to-end and is deployable from Europe via our own Mistral Cloud infrastructure. • Available to all via API today. Working with cybersecurity partners privately. Open weights release end of October.
