We're rocketing toward Election Day, which is why we're hitting the streets to talk to voters about Ballot Proposal 3.
Voting YES on Prop 3 can help bus + bike get projects done more quickly, making travel on our streets faster and safer.

These sorts of signs are discouraged by anyone who has read the research because they (1) do not reduce speeds, (2) do not offer safety guidance, and (3) create a false sense of security for parents and kids.
Unbelievably, during a City Council hearing about Intro 46 - a bill that would let parents of autistic children request road signs from the city to let motorists know that autistic children live in a neighborhood -@NYC_DOT Commissioner Flynn referred to these potentially lifesaving signs as "clutter" that would come at a financial cost to the city.
What is the cost of saving the life of a child? Does a young life also have a price tag, Commissioner? This is completely unacceptable. Do better, DOT.
See his words here:

Many bus routes are legacy street car tracks from 100+ years ago. Updating routes to match how the city works now is good! Glad to see this was a success for Queens and I look forward to seeing Brooklyn's network redesign.
MTA officials say Queens Bus Network redesign made ‘The World’s Borough’ buses faster, more reliable amny.com/news/mta-queens-bus…
Photos from a protest at Barclays Center opposing new bus lanes. It's a small crowd, 30–40 people.
Better street design is a winning issue most New Yorkers support. Disappointing that not everyone sees the big picture but hopefully Flatbush will be a great example when complete.
Bus riders should not have to fear violence over a $3 fare!
New Yorkers need a fully funded bus system that delivers fast, free and reliable service now. Costly fare enforcement that slows service and leads to violence against riders is not the answer!

My statement on the MTA Eagle Teams:
Deploying MTA EAGLE teams in low-income communities is not the answer to fare evasion—it turns already frustrating, unreliable bus commutes into opportunities to intimidate working-class New Yorkers and criminalize poverty.

No one should be roughed up for $3. We need all door boarding instead. This is the right move @MTA. @NYCMayor fast buses depend on it. 👀👀
MTA suspending bus fare enforcement teams after altercations emerge

This kind of fare enforcement is expensive and slows buses. It was never a good idea

Delaying buses so fare enforcement can occur – which can too easily result in violence against riders – was never the right approach. The @MTA needs to shift its priorities from recovering fares at any cost to actually delivering fast and reliable bus service for New Yorkers.

Every day, delivery workers are put at a greater risk than necessary bc @JulieMenin refuses to bring DPA to a vote. Speaker Menin, how much longer will you sacrifice worker safety to keep Amazon happy?
Teamsters president Sean O’Brien directly calls out @JulieMenin for “promising” to bring @tiffany_caban’s Delivery Protection Act to a vote and now leaving it on the table: “Now it’s time to get off your ass and deliver on those promises.”

The fight over space is the important dynamic at play in cities and beyond right now—and @WinnHu and I are writing a whole book about it ☀️
So excited to talk about how less is more, and dig deep into the solutions out there to address the greatest urban challenge of our time.

Last month, Brooklyn CB2 passed a resolution supporting bus and protected bike lanes on Dekalb & Lafayette Aves to make these streets safer and speed up trips for >18,000(!) daily bus riders.
With strong local support, looking forward to seeing this project completed!

Bus lanes on Dekalb/Lafayette will speed up the B38 bus for over 18,000 riders every day, and protected bike lanes will provide a safe east/west route in these neighborhoods.
We thank @CMCrystalHudson and @OsseChi for their support, can't wait to see this rolled out this fall!!
Bus and bike riders in Bedford-Stuyvesant and Clinton Hill are about to get much faster and safer rides, thanks to the Mamdani administration’s decision to place bus and bike lanes on Dekalb and Lafayette avenues. buff.ly/mnx5Bvq
Long overdue! The B38 currently moves at a glacial pace on DeKalb Ave for over 10,000 daily riders, and better bike connections will get cars off the road and make Ft. Greene and HVK parks way more accessible. @NYC_DOT please start implementation ASAP!

I’m excited for the upcoming hearing on @CMShaunAbreu @ShaunAbreu’s low-traffic neighborhood bill. Hats
off to him for championing LTNs. Safer speeds + better visibility (Sammy’s Law and daylighting) are also key pieces of the same vision: streets that work for everyone. 👏
Hard agree. A marathon hearing is a tall order, and appreciation and credit to @CMShaunAbreu for staying through it and listening to New Yorkers. 👏 These hearings mean minimal bathroom breaks, no lunch, and taking criticism from all sides. The chair was there through it all. 🙏
Not a great look for @SpeakerMenin: "Menin demanded to know why the DOT and the NYPD don't enforce the 2013 law that requires delivery cyclists to wear reflective vests. Asking a question that had nothing to do with any of the legislation that was being debated..."
"This year about 149 people have died in crashes in New York City streets. Zero of those people have been killed by e-bikes or e-scooters."

Today at @NYCCouncil, 150+ Deliveristas waited all day to be heard on 20+ micromobility bills that FAIL to address our urgent needs or the root causes of unsafe streets.
@NYCCouncil: We share the goal of safer streets, but today’s package FAILS to center workers’ needs. ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

How will you ensure voices of mostly immigrant black and brown New Yorkers likely most impacted by potential legislation are heard? Fliers and the option to testify online is insufficient for folks who aren’t retired. They need to work and put food on their tables.
Replying to @SophLebo
The Chamber is full because, fortunately, so many NYers showed up to testify today.
Those waiting in line are being let in promptly as others leave City Hall, and everyone will have the chance to testify. Staff are also distributing fliers on how to testify online if preferred.
