Trump after the US midterms: what it means for #Pakistan With the #midterms days away, Dr. James M. Lindsay (@JamesMLindsay), Distinguished Senior Fellow at @CFR_org, tells The Global Dialogue how big the #Democrats’ blue wave could be, why #Trump is losing his hold on the average #Republican voter, and why a president who is challenged “doesn’t back down. He doubles down.” He walks through #Washington’s options in the Iran war after Operation #EpicFury, considers whether the election calendar is now setting the war’s timetable, and sets out why even a Democratic #Congress will struggle to rein in what he calls America’s “imperial presidency”. He also discusses Trump’s summits with Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin, the Taiwan arms package and the Russian diesel deal. Closer to home, he turns to Pakistan: how it became one of Washington’s most important diplomatic partners, where Islamabad fits if fighting in the Gulf escalates again, and the Mecca Pact with Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Plus: whether influencers like Hasan Piker and Nick Fuentes actually move votes, and whether Trump’s approach to the world will outlast him. Dr. Lindsay also hosts The President’s Inbox, CFR’s weekly podcast on US foreign policy youtu.be/7JxSTfXiUSY

Great catching up with @ethrelkeld, Senior Fellow & Director of the South Asia Program at @StimsonCenter during her visit to Islamabad Elizabeth knows #Pakistan at close quarters, first as a diplomat in #Islamabad and #Peshawar, now as one of #Washington most careful readers of the region We talked about @PakGlobalAlumni (PGAN), what we have been doing and how the community has grown. We talked about geopolitics beyond Pakistan and about #food #culture and her fluent #Pashto #Stimson has been a good friend to #PGAN and I am grateful to Elizabeth for making the time

We r deploying #Beijing's adaptive experimentation without its method. #China centralised power but let provinces experiment. In #KhyberPakhtunkhwa, we centralised power & handed the province to veterans of #WashingtonConsensus 82% of KP is under 40 & the council running it should reflect that Hand #KP to its younger folks, not to the old guard & NOT to people like me tweeting from #Islamabad
Boomers are trying to solve 2026 issues by appointing more boomers left right and centre who created the issues in the first place. The outcomes are already clear as day.

Yes a framework with mandatory registration, training, background checks, universities accountable for the agents they appoint and a national register any family can check before paying a rupee #laibaejaz @hecpkofficial
A gold medallist #Laibaejaz from the International Islamic University is dead. An "education consultant" reportedly took her family's savings for a US admission that never existed and the papers were forged. #Pakistan has no #law, #licence or #regulator for #educationconsultants. Anyone can open a shop and sell a dream. Our statement is below. PGAN will build a direct line between Pakistani students and admission offices, put a licensing framework before the Government, and publish guides to applying to the world's top universities. @PakPMO @CMShehbaz @MohsinnaqviC42

We spoke about Pakistan's #youth and about #Pakistan's place in the world A country where 64% of the population is under 30, mediated #US and #Iran peace, which has kept #peacekeepers in the field for 6 decades, hosted millions of #Afghans for more than 4 and is paying for a #climate crisis it did almost nothing to cause, has a stronger claim on the world's attention @PakGlobalAlumni members wanted to understand that gap better and he gave the question the seriousness it deserves. Grateful to Hon @antonioguterres for his time and candour, to @UNinPak and to the PGAN members who came at a day's notice.
Yesterday UN SG @AntonioGuterres met with members of @PakGlobalAlumni, a community of 6000+ alumni of Pakistani roots from universities worldwide, presided by @asifullahk. They discussed Pakistan’s talented youth and the country’s role in the world.
