My neighbour, Desmond, grew up in a family where becoming a medical doctor was considered the greatest achievement. His father was a successful businessman who believed every child needed a profession people would respect. However, Desmond had always been passionate about photography and filmmaking. During secondary school, he spent his weekends taking pictures at birthday parties and editing short videos for friends.
Unfortunately, whenever he mentioned turning his passion into a career, his parents dismissed the idea. They insisted that photography was something he could do for enjoyment, not something capable of providing a comfortable future. Eventually, he gained admission to study medicine at a university in Enugu.
He completed his degree after several difficult years, mainly because he didn't want to disappoint his family. Everyone celebrated his graduation, but nobody noticed how unhappy he had become.

My wife and I were planning to travel to Nigeria for Christmas. Family trip.
I went to get our passports from the safe. My passport was there. Her passport was not there. My kids' passports were there. Hers was gone.
I called her.
Me: Where is your passport?
Her: It's in the safe.
Me: It's not there. I checked.
Her: Maybe you didn't look well. Check again.
Me: I checked 3 times. It's not there.
Her: Oh, I took it to work for visa. For conference.
Me: Which conference? The Vancouver conference?
She went quiet.
Me: You said Vancouver was a mistake. You said you ended it then why is your passport gone?
Her: I told you I ended it! I don't talk to him again!
Me: Then where is your passport?
Her: I lost it! I lost it!
Me: You lost it? When?
Her: Last week.
Me: So you lost your passport last week and didn't tell me? We are traveling in 2 weeks!
She started crying.
Her: Why are you always checking my things? You don't trust me! You are always controlling me.
Me: I'm controlling you because I want to know where your passport is for our family trip?
Her: Yes! You are controlling me, You are like my father!
Me: Your father doesn't want to know where your passport is. I do. Because last time you took your passport, you went to Vancouver to meet a man who thought I was dead.
Her: That was one time! One time! You will never forgive me!
Me: One time? Then explain this.
I showed her my phone. I had opened Find My iPhone again. Her location history.
Last Tuesday, 9 PM. She was at Pearson Airport. Not at work. At Pearson Airport.
Me: Why were you at Pearson Airport last Tuesday at 9 PM? You said you were at work late.
Her: I... I went to drop a friend...
Me: Drop a friend at 9 PM? Which friend?
Her: My colleague...
Me: Your colleague's flight was to where?
Her: I don't know...
Me: I checked. There was a flight to Vancouver at 9:30 PM last Tuesday. Were you on it?
Her: No! I was not on it! I swear!
Me: Then why is there a boarding pass in your email? I saw it when you left your laptop open. Boarding pass. Toronto to Vancouver. Tuesday. Seat 14A. Name: Lisa Johnson.
She froze.
Her: Okay... okay... I was going to tell you...
Me: Tell me what? That you went back to Vancouver? To the man who thought I was dead? While I was home with the kids thinking you were at work?
Her: It was just to say goodbye properly! I wanted closure! I wanted to end it face to face! Because I love you! I wanted to end it for us!
Me: Closure? You needed to fly to Vancouver for closure? You needed to spend the night in his house for closure?
Her: How do you know I spent the night?
Me: Because your flight back was Wednesday morning. You came home Wednesday morning and said you worked night shift.
She fell to her knees.
Her: Please don't leave me! Please! The kids need me! I will change! I promise! It was just closure!
Me: Closure is a text. Closure is not a flight, a hotel, and a night in his bed.
Her: At least I came back! At least I didn't stay there! I came back to you! That should count for something!
I looked at her for a few seconds.
Me: Do you know what hurts the most? It's not even that you cheated. It's that you keep making me feel stupid for believing you.
Her: Please. I can explain everything.
Me: I don't need another explanation. I need the truth.
I picked up my phone.
Me: There's something else you don't know.
Her: What?
Me: I called the man in Vancouver yesterday.
Her face changed immediately.
Her: You did WHAT?
Me: I wanted to hear his side of the story.
Her: Why would you do that?
Me: Because I wanted to know what kind of relationship you two actually had.
She started shaking.
