Genomic sequencing shows that the Ebola virus from Nigeria’s recently reported only imported case is highly similar to that from Kenya’s @MOH_Kenya reported first imported case, differing by only one mutation.
My thanks to the sequencing teams at @NCDCgov and the Institute of Genomics and Global Health @RedeemersUni , Ede, and to @christian_happi for this excellent work.
We are forging ahead with public health control measures while awaiting results of further investigations and testing.
Our approach is that of solidarity and global cooperation, appreciating the role our sister African nations, @AfricaCDC, Technical partners and experts @WHO, @DrTedros, @Dr_JeanKaseya, Prof. Aliko Ahmed @alikothe3rd, @Fmohnigeria as well key International partners especially The Bureau of Global Health Security and Diplomacy (GHSD) @StateDept.
We are determined to do our best to protect the lives and livelihoods of our people and we urge all Nigerians and our partners to work together with us. By the grace of we shall succeed and rise above this public health emergency as we did in 2014.

🌍 Antimicrobial resistance is increasingly shaped by and compounding other global challenges affecting our world.
A new risk assessment from @rivm identifies #AMR as the leading international public health risk for the Netherlands over the coming decade and highlights the links between AMR and climate change, conflict, infectious disease outbreaks, supply chain vulnerabilities and weakening international cooperation.
The report reinforces the need for stronger surveillance, investment in new antibiotics, preparedness and international collaboration.
At GARDP, we work across R&D, access and stewardship because tackling AMR requires solutions that extend beyond innovation alone. This work is made possible through the support of several governments and other funders, including the Netherlands Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A true medical miracle just happened. Daniel Cressy, 23, just became the first person in Louisiana—and the entire Gulf South—to be functionally cured of sickle cell disease using CRISPR gene editing.
Doctors collected his stem cells, edited them with Casgevy to boost fetal hemoglobin production, eliminated the diseased cells, and infused the corrected cells back into his body. The result?
No active sickle cell disease.
No more debilitating pain crises.
No more hospitalizations defining his life.
And perhaps most remarkable of all: his dream of becoming a commercial pilot, once blocked because of sickle cell disease, is now back within reach.
For decades, medicine treated the symptoms. Now we can edit the underlying DNA. Read that again. We are living in an age where a genetic disease can be rewritten at its source. One young man's future was restored.
Thousands more may follow.
Functional cure achieved.

Future rewritten.
What an incredible time to be alive. 🧬✈️

We need to be responsible in our use of antibiotics to prevent a looming public health catastrophe.
Did you know some bacteria can survive antibiotics and become resistant?
Misuse, like unnecessary prescriptions, wrong doses, or stopping early, makes it worse. Use antibiotics responsibly to protect their effectiveness.
