Britain continues to come off badly in a second day of worldwide bond sell-off. Yield on 30-year gilts hit 5.89% = higher mortgages. As I write, 10-years are over 5.26%. Alas the nation’s Bus-Conductor-in-Chief said nothing to calm the markets in his Commons debut yesterday. He was too busy parking his bus in the 1970s. Such a great decade for dear old Blighty. I’m sure we all can’t wait to get back to it. Pretty much all foretold in yesterday’s column:

Can someone give me one compelling explanation why submitting data to HMRC on their portal is “not digital” but adding a new sandwich layer of software between the data and their portal “makes tax digital”. And why we need to do 4 partial updates that go nowhere? Argh @HMRCgovuk

One thing you could do, PM, is give HMRC kick up the arse & immediately stop HMRC making self-employed pay for private software subscriptions for new Making Tax Diabolical regime. One more cost on enterprise. Give HMRC six weeks to design new software, free for self-employed.

12/ I have never seen anything like this and the LCJ is not a woman given to temper or hyperbole. This judgment is seismic. The LCJ is saying the AG has fundamentally failed in his role in a way that in my view ought to be a resignation matter. He is a deeply unserious man and the sooner he goes the better.
