Robert Jenrick now talking about using “lethal force” to stop the small boats. Reform have lost their minds.
🚨"Deploy the Royal Marines into the Channel. If they need to use lethal force then they'll be able to do so. I think the problem would come to an end within a matter of days."
@RobertJenrick says Reform is the only party with the "courage" to deal with the crisis.

"Lunch: potato soup with sour cream and laurel leaves, asparagus in sour cream and breadcrumbs. Sunny-side-up egg and beef in tomato sauce with macaroni. Fried apple in vanilla sauce."
Yehudit Aufrichtig and her friends in the Ravensbrück labor camp wrote "fantasy recipes" to try to compensate for the lack of food.
When Yehudit was too ill to collect her daily slice of bread, Edith Gombus brought it to her alongside a note listing all the imaginary food they had "eaten" that day. It closed: "We ate everything apart from a little slice of bread, which we saved for you."
This is her story: bit.ly/4y2jKG9

‘The extensive nature of Russian influence operations over the past 15 years has compromised the British state & senior politicians to such an extent that they have felt too embarrassed – or too compromised – to investigate fully how extensive it has been’

It’s dishonest & embarrassing to pretend I don’t exist & that Banks didn’t sue me as a result of this work. It contributes to the ongoing silence that’s accompanied this story for a decade. But most of all, it insults the readers.

A number of people have recently asked me about the late Jeffrey Archer. He was, by a mile, the rudest and most obnoxious person I have ever met. Ever! And I have met a few!
Having been given formal permission for my wife and late father in law to attend the interview at his luxurious penthouse, I was shocked at the tantrum he threw about their presence. He went on and on about it! I cancelled the interview immediately, commiserated with his staff, told him what I thought of his behaviour and we left. In shock!
In hindsight, and being as charitable as I can, perhaps he had just heard the news that he would do jail time for perjury. The news only officially broke months later.
On the same day we had interviewed legendary rugby commentator Bill McLaren. After an incredibly generous and insightful interview for which he insisted on coming to our hotel, he told us his daughter had just been diagnosed with terminal cancer! Not for a minute did he consider breaking his agreement to chat on air.
The best and the worst on the same day.
RIP to them both.

I note that politicians and journalists have been falling over themselves in praise of Lord Jeffrey Archer who has died aged 86. I don’t share that view.
Back in 1987 Archer sued the Daily Star for libel after they reported he had paid for sex with a prostitute.
Thanks to his lies in the witness box he was awarded £500K in damages, a record at the time. Actually the paper was right he had had paid £6K for her services.
The editor, a talented Aussie called Lloyd Turner who had done a great job for the paper, was fired by the idiot owner who preferred to believe a politician than his own staff.
That verdict left Turner, according to his wife, a broken man, and he died five years later at 57.
So, he never had the pleasure, some six years later, of seeing Archer, being jailed for perjuring himself and forced to hand back the £500K.
Archer’s lies destroyed Turner’s career and hurried the end of his life.
Disgracefully, that story has been ignored by the good and great in the hagiographies.

"Frank and Percy" has its World Premiere at this year's BFI #LFF next week on 13 October, before coming to UK cinemas early next year.

The Prime Minister is making dementia research a priority. This is a huge moment!
He set out an ambition for the UK to lead the world in discovering new treatments to beat dementia, alongside substantial new investment in The BARBARA Alliance.
It's a major vote of confidence in the researchers, clinicians and organisations working together to accelerate progress, remove barriers to clinical trials and accelerate progress towards new treatments.
With sustained investment, earlier diagnosis and a determination to make research accessible to everyone, we have a real opportunity to create the change that's so desperately needed.

I spent a wonderfully fun and spooky evening at The London Palladium last night in the company of Prof. Reece Shearsmith performing his book tour show.
We were also overjoyed by the surprise guests. Reece's part storytelling, part memoir wot is in my hand was published yesterday.
