We are excited to share our paper "Organizing principles of astrocytic nanoarchitecture in the mouse cerebral cortex," a #volumeEM study, out in @CurrentBiology today! An odyssey of #astrocyte segmentation and remote work for a big team. A🧵with videos:

Just published - the first full brain+nerve cord connectome. What a pleasure to have played a small role helping get this dataset proofread. Congrats @as_bates @jasper_tms @helenihwang @MatsliahArie @RachelIreneWils @darbly et al.
Just published yesterday, the #BANC! A full central nervous system (CNS) connectome of a limbed animal enables us to trace sensory-motor arcs and understand how the CNS controls the body. rdcu.be/fncjS #neuroscience @Nature, Video by @quorumetrix, sound on! 1/18

The first “brain-and-cord” connectome is out! Excited to have played a minor role :) See the thread and preprint for exciting findings on how info flows btwn the brain, VNC and periphery in flies. Congrats @as_bates, @jasper_tms, Minsu Kim, Helen Yang, @darbly & team!

Glad to have this review on computational tools for studying #astrocyte #ultrastructure out. If you're interested in how we might eventually integrate astrocytes into larger @vEM and #connectomics projects, have a read!

Thanks to Tabish Syed for hammering out the majority of it with me! Tabish is on the job market for any departments looking for an expert in applying computer vision to biological problems.
Thanks to Keith Murai, Yoshi Kubota, and Youssef Mohammed for their contributions.
And thanks to @papouinlab and Julius Kirkegaard for insightful reviews!
We had an amazing time in Lyon this week “Linking Brain Structure and Function at the Nanoscale.” Thanks so much to @ADenizot for gathering such a great group of scientists to talk about #vEM, computational models and #astrocytes!
Can't wait for this workshop at @Inria_lyon hosted by @ADenizot and the AIstroSight team. Going to be lots of great #volumeEM, #compneuro and #astrocytes! Free to register for the virtual side of the event! @volumeEM @volumeEM_fr
Interested in #neuroscience & #astrocytes 🌟? Join us on 🗓️ September 26-27 in our hybrid interdisciplinary workshop! Registration is open & free: club-de-cellules-gliales.ass…. More information here: adenizot.github.io/workshops… #neurotwitter #AcademicTwitter #compneuro

I hear neuro people talking about "oh you need to report what mouse chow you used and what kind of water your mice got because these can affect behavior" and I'm like, maybe don't work in this field?

Tyler Sloan discusses why neuroscience needs to overcome its legacy of minimalism and embrace the contemporary challenge of representing whole-nervous-system connectivity.

Spine apparatuses everywhere!!
Replying to @HaniehFalahati
We show its conservation from🪰to humans thanks to @FlyWireNews. Interestingly, it’s only present in a small # of🪰neurons: the rare ones w/ actin-based spines similar to vertebrate spines. This hints that SA is co-evolving with the actin-based spines (2/n)
