We were not prepared for yesterday. Not even close despite days of advanced notice. Our officers did their best but the absence of city leadership & coordination between departments was noticeable.
And the mayor is out of town.
With more demonstrations planned for this weekend, Chicago government needs to get its act together!

Random Sunday thought re: Chicago - Chicago's peak population was in the 1950s. Since then, the city has generally shrunk, development has slowed and we lost large sectors of many industries.
Whatever the cause (globalization, Chicago mismanagement, etc), Chicago hasn't grown since. We've changed (for better or for worse) but what world wonders are we building? What improvements (not maintenance) are we making to our infrastructure? What breakthroughs are we making?
Shanghai, Dubai, Tokyo are massive cities building up and consistently growing.
Chicago should aspire not to "not be Detroit" but to be a world class city leading the way in finance, culture, architecture, development and so much more.
Many are content with miniscule growth or worse, NOT shrinking but also not growing. We should be dreaming big.
It starts with the basics of safe streets, real, high quality education for families, world class infrastructure (that DOES mean trains, buses, roads, highways) and a strong financial/business sector and private investment.
Chicago has the base for it it's just a matter of getting it done.

I hope President Trump cancels northern Illinois emission testing which costs a billion dollars a year. 97% of the cars pass so it is a complete waste of time & money for Illinois drivers. There is no measurement if this improves quality of life or less emissions.
