Great recent contribution from @Dr_AnnaLusardi and coauthors showing the importance of financial literacy to the real economy. It’s intuitive ofc that literacy would be - but it doesn’t always have the impact you’d expect. Building our empirical picture is key!
Food for thought!
"Why Should Central Banks Care About Financial Literacy?" by Dimitris Georgarakos, Diogo Guillen, Annamaria Lusardi, and Justus Meyer.
"The transmission of monetary policy partly depends on the ability of households to understand interest rates, inflation, financial risks, and central bank communication. Using the European Central Bank (ECB)’s Consumer Expectations Survey, we document a link between financial literacy and household financial decisions relevant to both monetary policy transmission and financial stability. Consumers with higher financial literacy report paying greater attention to interest rates, searching more actively for financial products, showing greater sensitivity to changes in interest rates and participating more frequently in asset markets. They also report medium-term inflation expectations closer to the ECB’s target, better debt management, and lower financial fragility. Our empirical analyses make one point concrete: higher financial literacy can raise the power of monetary policy."

How we fight inflation doesn't just matter for the economy. It matters for democracy.
If government decisions leave people poorer, more indebted and less secure, we risk deepening the conditions that have emboldened the far-right.

But it is about the failures of the state and the chronic weakness of centrist politics

2. 59% of respondents trust neither polls nor prediction markets to predict who will win an election.
3. 69% of respondents say the costs of new data centers to their state's water and energy resources outweigh the economic benefits.
4. 62% of respondents have not used any AI tool to learn about politics for the election.
