Hereโs a weird one โ told @DJBeeBot to keep me posted on Halloween events, but it found something that also matched my โfly fishingโ keyword (ha!)
10yo daughter is now really into poker. Showed her Texas Hold โEm โฆ โoh the flop is like a Pokemon bench that we can both use!โ โค๏ธ
I think I am okay with where @DJBeeBot landed here โฆ. weโre trying to make something thatโs present and proactive but not annoying and needy. (โyour friendly neighborhood radio DJโ)
"want the algo to wash over them after a long day...."
Replying to @dens
A lot of people do not. A lot of people kind of want and need for the algo to wash over them after a long day at the job they hate or the school that they know will get them nowhere right now.
Discuss: "People want to be saved from the addictive algorthemic content that is masquerading as Social Media" (trying to wrap my head around whether I believe this or not)
Iโm giving a talk at Automatic HQ in NYC this Wednesday โ โsoftware for the streetsโ + AI for IRL + @DJBeeBot & Hopscotch Labs. Swing by if youโre around: luma.com/sjnwdzsw
To anyone rabbithole'ing on You Can See Everything โย don't miss the eBay auctions for old Theranos swag. ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=theโฆ

Foursquare was acquired last month. The outcome was disappointing. It's taken me a while to write this, but I think I'm finally done grieving it. Here are some thoughts on our final years, an effort to honor the team who helped build & maintain FSQ's legacy, and my attempt to finally get some closure. teendrama.substack.com/p/somโฆ

Gonna re-post this post again because I think of it EVERYTIME my I instinctively/subconsciously reach for my phone (like a baby reaching for its binky or stuffy)
Cell phone addiction is an absolute thermonuke to the brain and nobody 'takes it seriously' because it is not clear that there is any solution in a world where the revealed preference of everyone across the globe, regardless of income, race, age, any factor whatsoever, would rather be on their phone than do *anything* else. Deciding "I use this too much" and meaningfully altering one's behaviour doesn't seem to have much success for any of the very small minority of people with the sentience or self-reflection to realize how bad it is. Most people seem to think of it as an unproductive habit at most, rather than an addiction. Any attempt to speak seriously about this is met with derision, accusations of pretentiousness. There is no real solution to it. The future of human cognition fifty years down the line is horrifying if you stop and think about it for even a moment.
