Foursquare was acquired last month. The outcome was disappointing. It's taken me a while to write this, but I think I'm finally done grieving it. Here are some thoughts on our final years, an effort to honor the team who helped build & maintain FSQ's legacy, and my attempt to finally get some closure. teendrama.substack.com/p/som…

Impossible to watch this and not think that cellphones have completely ruined the modern concert experience
Gavin Rossdale from Bush is high as f*ck on molly playing Glycerine at Woodstock 1999.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Gavin Rossdale has only publicly mentioned smoking large amounts of marijuana around Woodstock 1999 and has never claimed to be on molly (or any specific drug) during Bush's Glycerine performance there.

I would especially love to see people who work at Meta talk a little bit about the mismatch between Facebook’s early aspirations of making the world more connected and the reality of Reels before they skip ahead to these utopian pitches about Muse.

Upstate New York has a terrible economy but great cost of living.
Downstate has a great economy but a terrible cost of living.
A seemingly smart move would be to connect the two regions with affordable high-speed rail so the regions could complement each other but alas.....🤷🏾♂️

IG truly the crack cocaine of our era.
i deleted instagram about 5 years ago, so i had almost forgotten what it feels like to have it in your life
watching people around me use it now feels strange
you end up checking the daily lives of people you haven’t seen in ten years, people you probably wouldn’t even stop to talk to if you crossed them on the street.
random people from your past become permanent background characters in your mind.
then add the fact that a huge part of instagram is effectively a dating product
if you’re already in a long-term relationship, keeping that constant stream of attention, comparison and other people’s lives in your head has destroyed countless couples
after being off it for years, the whole thing looks much more extreme from the outside.

I reread this every year.
I cry like a baby every year.
Todd Beamer died a father, husband, and hero.
Todd: Hello… Operator… listen to me. I can’t speak very loud. This is an emergency. I’m a passenger on a United flight to San Francisco. Our plane has been hijacked.
Lisa: I understand. Can they see you?
Todd: No. There are three that we know of. They have knives — razor knives, like box cutters. Someone announced from the cockpit there was a bomb. It sounded fake.
Lisa: Your name?Todd: Todd Beamer. United Flight 93.Todd: They killed one passenger in first class. They forced most of us back. Fourteen of us here. Five flight attendants. The guy with the bomb ordered us to sit on the floor.
Lisa: Are you okay?
Todd: We’re going down… wait. No. We’re leveling off. We changed directions. We’re flying east again.
Todd: A guy named Jeremy called his wife. She told him two planes hit the World Trade Center. Lisa, is that true?
Lisa: I have to tell you the truth. It’s very bad. Both towers are gone. A third plane hit the Pentagon. Our country is under attack. I’m afraid your plane may be part of their plan.
Todd: Oh God. Lisa, will you do something for me? Call my wife and my kids. Promise me you’ll call.
Lisa: I promise.
Todd: Our home number is… You have the same name as my wife. Lisa. We’ve been married ten years. She’s pregnant with our third child. Tell her I love her. I’ll always love her. We have two boys — David, he’s 3, and Andrew, he’s 1. Tell them their daddy loves them and he is so proud of them. The baby is due January 12th. I saw an ultrasound. We still don’t know if it’s a girl or a boy.
Lisa: I’ll tell them. I promise, Todd.(Lisa patches in the FBI.)
Agent: Todd, your plane is on a course for Washington. Best guess is the White House or the Capitol.
Todd: I understand. I’ll be back.
Todd: Everyone knows this isn’t a normal hijacking. We have decided we will not be pawns in their plot.
Lisa: What are you going to do?
Todd: Four of us are going to rush the one with the bomb. Then the cockpit. A stewardess is getting boiling water. We’ll take them out.
Todd: Would you pray with me?They pray the Lord’s Prayer. Then: Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me.
Todd: God help me. Jesus help me.Are you guys ready? Let’s Roll.

Introducing our Trusted Person network powered by our new Instinct-to-Instinct communication protocol. Your Instinct can now talk to other Instincts to coordinate plans on your behalf.
Getting people together often involves a lot of back-and-forth: finding a time, working out the details, and following up when plans change. Instincts can now work with each other to help handle that coordination.
For example:
- Coordinating plans with your spouse
- Planning a weekend trip with friends, including dates and arrival times
- Scheduling time with colleagues and other collaborators
- Hosting events with 10s or 100s of people
- Organizing recurring plans like tennis, book clubs, or weekly dinners
Disclaimer: Your Instinct will only be able to communicate with those in your Trusted Person network. This is the group of people who are closest to you:
- Spouse
- Older children and parents
- Colleagues and trusted professional relationships
- Small local businesses
The Trusted Person network is currently available to our early access group and will be slowly rolled out across the user base over the next 24-48 hours.

Meta's new Muse agent gives every user a dedicated virtual machine in Meta's cloud. A full computer, with its own browser, that keeps working after you close the app.
That one architecture decision explains the entire AI capex story better than any earnings call.
A chatbot is cheap. You ask a question, the model runs for a few seconds, then the GPU moves on to someone else. Millions of people can share the same hardware because almost nobody is mid-query at any given moment.
An agent flips that math. Muse takes a goal like "sell my car" and works on it in the background for hours. It opens browsers, fills forms, negotiates, waits for replies, checks back in. The compute keeps burning after the conversation ends.
So the unit of cost stops being the question and becomes the hour.
Meta is handing out cloud PCs, free tier included, and betting that $20 and $100 subscriptions cover enough of them. Zuckerberg has spent a year telling investors that personal agents justify the data center spend. This is what he meant.
Answering questions takes a data center. Giving a few hundred million people a second computer that never sleeps takes a power grid.
Introducing Muse, your personal AI agent from Meta that gets things done across every part of life.

“Three avocados. Past, present, future. One will betray you.” is incredible.
The guy who delivers our groceries has started leaving little notes on the bags, except they're all very ominous and poetic? Like the first one said "The apples were soft. I chose differently for you. Trust is circular." And I was like okay, weird, but he did get better apples than I would've picked so maybe he's just really into fruit.
But then it kept happening. "Three avocados. Past, present, future. One will betray you." Or "The milk expires Friday but don't we all." One time he left a note that just said "They didn't have your brand of salsa. I have made a choice you will understand only in time."
My husband thinks it's hilarious and has started leaving notes back. Like "Thank you for the bananas. Your wisdom travels with us." They've never met, just this ongoing weird note exchange on our doorstep.
Last week the delivery guy left a bag with a note that said "I have been transferred to a new zone. Another will come. Speak not of me." And I was like oh no this is kind of sad actually? I didn't realize I cared but I did?
The new delivery person showed up yesterday. Very normal, very efficient, no notes. Just groceries. It felt empty.
But then I unpacked everything and at the bottom of the last bag there was a single note that said "Greg briefed me on your journey. The eggs are fragile. As are we all."
My husband wants to invite them to Thanksgiving.
