Diaphragm endometriosis can cause dysfunction as a consequence of the neuromuscular axis impacted with inflammation and triggered by menstruation. Thoracic ultrasound involves the lungs, pleura, and diaphragm. MRI can correlate the lesions as the cause.

This woman had uterine growths in her brain causing seizures for 7 years. Her doctors missed 3 clues: seizures only occurred on day 1 of her period, the lesion only swelled or bled during menstruation, and regular seizure meds never worked.
Diagnosis: Brain endometriosis. Hormonal therapy stopped the seizures and the lesion regressed.

Early-stage #OvarianCancer causes no symptoms and CA-125 and HE4, proteins used as the primary blood biomarkers are usually not released at high enough levels for detection during early stages. In addition, these biomarkers can also be elevated in patients with benign conditions like #endometriosis and #fibroids.
“[These tests] work better if there is some sort of mass that’s already seen,” said Andrew F. Wagner, MD, a clinical geneticist at @NorthwesternMed.
Researchers are exploring new diagnostic approaches that could help detect disease sooner and potentially improve outcomes.

Shortness of breath that worsens when lying flat or entering a swimming pool may be a clue to diaphragm paralysis.
⚪️At Baylor College of Medicine Lung Institute, evaluation includes diaphragm imaging, a fluoroscopic SNIFF test, and updated pulmonary function testing in both upright and supine positions.
⚪️For selected patients with persistent symptoms, diaphragm plication lowers and stabilizes the weakened diaphragm, creating a tight surface for the lung to expand against while the chest wall expands. Treatment timing matters—and each plan should account for the possibility of nerve recovery.
