Horse racing, we need to do a better job of letting the public know how much we care about our horses. Here are some facts. There are over 80 Thoroughbred aftercare organizations in the US and that list is growing. Most people don’t know that when we pay for horses at auction a portion gets donated to aftercare and many people donate large sums yearly. The TCA alone donates over $800,000 yearly to accredited organizations. More can always be done but we do care about these horses. Sales companies have implemented new rules, more randomized drug testing at the 2yr old sales. Whip rules, no medication 24hrs out and only one NSAID present in test sample. We are trying to do better. Research shows that in 2022 we had the lowest %’s of breakdowns among 3yr olds on dirt tracks since 2009. Hoping that number will be lower for 2023. @jockeyclub We love our horses and the public needs to know.
