US life expectancy has taken a nose-dive. In Australia, recent health decisions by National Cabinet ignore this warning. Adults in charge need to explain it so a 5-year old can understand gmopundit.blogspot.com/2022/…

People keep writing that Trump will attempt to compromise Western security for Russia’s benefit, as though Europe were some obedient Labrador waiting for its American owner to give it commands. There is one rather enormous problem with that fantasy: Europe is sovereign, and Trump does not get to decide its future. He can meet Putin, make grand promises, and draw imaginary lines across European maps until he runs out of crayons. None of it means a thing without Europe’s consent. Europe is not Trump’s property, and its security is not something he can hand over to Moscow. Trump can promise Putin whatever he likes. Europe has absolutely no obligation to deliver it.

The war that matters most to Canadians isn’t the one with tanks. Russia runs “whole stables of people” producing disinformation and misinformation for Western audiences, Taylor says, because Moscow’s minions understand our society and has the skills to manipulate it. 8/13

Jared Kushner seems to be saying here that the United States is prepared to put NATO's military presence in Eastern Europe on the negotiating table as part of a deal to end the war in Ukraine. It means that that Putin's long-standing demands to demilitarise NATO's eastern flank could become part of the bargaining. This has been coming for some time. Russia has demanded restrictions on NATO's military presence in Central and Eastern Europe for years. And when Steve Witkoff met Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg last month, he said, according to Putin, that discussions about a new European security architecture should be part of the agenda. This is alarming for Poland and eastern flank countries. They will be asking what Washington might actually be prepared to concede in negotiations with Moscow. Poland is currently negotiating with Washington over a permanent American military base on its territory.
President Trump today advanced an important discussion with several European leaders about the need for a broader European security architecture that can help establish the conditions for lasting peace. Building on his leadership and the substantive work undertaken this week in Brussels with Ukraine, NATO, and our European partners, @SEPeaceMissions and I wanted to share some of the objectives guiding our ongoing discussions. For more than 30 years, Europe and Russia have struggled to establish a sustainable security framework. Decades of mistrust, competing security concerns, and the devastating consequences of this war make this an extraordinarily difficult challenge, but one that is essential to lasting peace. Our objective is to develop practical arrangements that address the security concerns of all sides, reduce the risk of future conflict, and create a more stable and predictable security environment. We are exploring five principal goals: permanent security consultations, reliable crisis communications, greater military transparency, reciprocal measures to reduce escalation risks, and an enduring framework for long-term European security and stability. Any arrangements must fully respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independent decision-making of every nation. Each country will retain authority over its own security and alliances, and no country would have a veto over another’s sovereign choices. NATO will remain central to European collective defense, and this initiative would build upon existing institutions and commitments. We will continue consultations through the Shell Bay format with Ukraine, NATO, the EU, and our European partners, expanding engagement to ensure that all relevant perspectives and ideas are considered. We will also engage Russia as part of the peace negotiations. Next week in Abu Dhabi, the United States will convene the first trilateral peace discussions with Ukraine and Russia since February. All parties remain intensely engaged in preparing for substantive and productive negotiations. We will consult closely with our European partners on the sidelines and, if progress is made, aim to move toward a broader multilateral format with their direct participation. These ideas continue to evolve, and we welcome thoughtful input. Creating the right structure will be critical to ending this war and transitioning from conflict toward conditions that make possible a durable peace. This is difficult, detailed work. There are no easy solutions. But the opportunity to help end this devastating war and build a foundation for a more peaceful, secure, and prosperous Europe for generations to come makes it a challenge well worth undertaking. We will see how these discussions develop and continue working intensively with all parties toward President Trump’s objective of a comprehensive and lasting peace.

Russia does not need another security agreement. It has the world’s largest nuclear arsenal, and absolutely nobody in Europe has the slightest desire to invade or occupy that miserable country. What Kushner is describing as some magnificent new European security architecture is, essentially, the security system Europe already had before Russia decided international law was optional and its neighbours’ territory was available for collection. We had treaties. We had security guarantees. We had diplomatic consultations. We had internationally recognised borders. Russia violated them, invaded Ukraine, annexed its territory and turned European security into a catastrophe. The problem was never a shortage of agreements. The problem was Russia’s refusal to honour them. And now Washington apparently believes the solution is to sit down with Moscow and invent another agreement. Brilliant. Perhaps this time Putin could promise to behave himself in writing. Oh, wait. He already did.
🇺🇸🇺🇦 The US is preparing a "grand deal" to end the war in Ukraine and create a new security system for all of Europe, — Kushner. The plan calls for regular consultations between the countries, the prevention of military conflicts, and long-term security guarantees.

So, let me flag a few things, traitor. 1. "European security architecture" is a phrase the Kremlin uses. We already have one: it's called NATO. 2. You conflate (as you always do) the victim of this war with the aggressor. The aggressor is Russia. 3. "Root causes" is Russian for "do it our way" and you know it. 4. Nothing a word about Russian withdrawal, the occupied territories, POWs or deported children. Weird. 5. Lavrov wrote this for you. 6. Fuck Putin, fuck Russia, and fuck you.

Watching all these Republican attempts to explain why they lost the election is painful, because they cannot come out and say one simple truth. They handed the party to a corrupt, criminal, dictator-loving, economic and strategic idiot--who proceeded to be all of these things.

With the news that David Jones has been placed into voluntary administration, first and foremost our thoughts are with the thousands of workers who face a difficult and uncertain time ahead. This news will also come as a shock to Australians right across the country. David Jones is the world's oldest continuously operating department store. Founded in 1838, it is older than the state of Victoria. Older than the Sydney Opera House. This iconic Australian business has survived two world wars, the Great Depression and countless economic crises. But after 188 years, it cannot find a way forward in Labor's economy. David Jones is now among the thousands of Australian businesses being pushed to the brink by rising costs, higher interest rates and an economy that is going backwards. It's not alone. What we’re seeing is an economy that’s crumbling under Labor. Across the country, businesses large and small are being forced to make tough decisions. Whether to reduce hours. Whether to cut jobs. Whether they can afford to keep going. Labor promised Australians a Future Made in Australia. Instead, we're seeing an Australia that is closing for business. More taxes. More regulation. More spending. Higher energy costs. And businesses being suffocated by a government that simply doesn't understand how jobs and prosperity are created. This is the economy Labor has built. You cannot have a strong economy without strong businesses. And you cannot protect Australian jobs while making it harder and more expensive to employ Australians. Australia needs a government that backs enterprise, rewards effort and restores confidence. That means lower taxes. Less red tape. Cheaper, more reliable energy. And an end to Labor's reckless spending that's driving up inflation. The Coalition will fight to rebuild an economy where businesses can invest, employ Australians and grow again. An economy that restores our standard of living and protects our way of life. Australia should be open for business, not closing its doors.

Well, I don’t know, man, but looking back at that February 2025 Oval Office shitshow, some 20 months later, one guy from that meeting is bombing Moscow and St. Petersburg on a daily basis, another has suffered a spectacular failure in Iran and a crushing electoral defeat, and the third, the one with the big mouth, may well have kissed his presidential ambitions goodbye. So, who had the cards?
