Yesterday, Gen. Galaal took a considerable risk by stepping forward as a whistleblower, warning the Somali people of what he described as an existential threat: a long-term project aimed not merely at weakening Somalia, but at its eventual dismantling & takeover through a “counterterrorism” buffer zone instalment plan.
The most disturbing aspect of his warning is not the existence of foreign plots. Nations have always faced adversaries. What is far more unsettling is the suggestion that elements of Somalia's leadership were aware of these designs and failed to mount any meaningful effort to counter them.
It is worth recalling that during the previous administration, the opposition relentlessly accused the government of overseeing Al-Shabaab's expansion while offering little resistance as the group entrenched itself across the country & edged ever closer to swallowing the capital.
The term “Labaadi Shabaab” did not emerge from nowhere. It was born from a widespread perception that the Fahad-Farmaajo era presided over the strengthening of the very threat it claimed to be fighting. Equally striking is how dramatically the political landscape appears to have shifted.
As the current administration intensifies military pressure on Al-Shabaab and the group's territorial grip comes under sustained assault, suspicion & accusations no longer flow toward those in government. Instead, they have increasingly gravitate toward elements of the standing opposition. History has a habit of exposing the hidden truth.
What we have seen play out for decades is that Somalia's dysfunction has been explained through the language of insecurity. Al-Shabaab became both the symptom & the excuse; the perpetual justification for stalled institutions, deferred accountability, & unfulfilled promises. But what happens when that excuse begins to disappear?
If Al-Shabaab's defeat is finally becoming conceivable, then Somalia is approaching a moment of profound clarity. We may soon learn who was fighting an insurgency, & who was merely riding it. The loudest voices in politics are often revealed not by the crisis they condemn, but by the peace they pursue with actionable effort. Some careers are built on solving crises. Others are built on ensuring the crisis never truly ends.

Today, 2 tons of bananas was $380. Out of that amount, $150 went to isbaaro extortion and $130 to transportation. That leaves us with just $100 to cover workers’ wages, fertilizers, fuel, equipment maintenance, and all our other farming expenses.
We literally working for isbaaro
We are not just growing bananas; we are working to pay the isbaaro.
How can local agriculture grow when farmers are left with almost nothing after transporting their produce to the market?

The dhow, invented by the Somali people thousands of years ago and probably the oldest sailing craft style in continuous use since then, is a common sight in all its variations up and down East Africa's Indian Ocean coastline. This is the furthest south I've seen one, in the clear waters of the Ilha de Mozambique.

They've been " accidently" dropping weapons in Alshabaab controlled territories and claim the government of Somalia needs to do better on the fight against terrorism.
