It is great to see this autonomous demonstration of an early CRISPR-like discovery hit mainstream, something that 10 years ago would have excited maybe 100 scientists globally. The more we can inspire disparate fields about new concepts, the faster we can identify breakthroughs.
Claude has discovered a previously unknown enzyme system hidden in the DNA of bacteriophages. Beside the enzyme’s gene sits a long array of repeating DNA—a structure that looks somewhat similar to CRISPR.
We don’t yet understand what this system does, but only a handful of known systems share its features, and all of them are able to cut, copy, and paste DNA. Historically, the discovery of such programmable systems has helped revolutionize medicine. CRISPR, for instance, is now the foundation of genetic medicines. But it will take much more work to learn what this system does, and whether it can be put to similar use.

As agents shift the bottleneck away from hypothesis generation towards experimental validation, the next unlock should focus on closing the translational gap that too often prevents promising discoveries from reaching their potential to benefit humanity.
I hope the early discovery doesn't stop here and that the translational journey will achieve similar acceleration. Congrats to the @AnthropicAI team behind this work!
We are reimagining the future of healthcare with world-class CRISPR, genomics, AI and global infrastructure, together with Department of Health Abu Dhabi and @M42Health. Reach out if you'd like to build this future with us - more to come!

Wow. This is one of those discoveries that will catalyze more discoveries
Congrats @Doudna_lab! 👏
What an icon...so proud of Alysa for showing the world her passion and freedom for skating, and proving that there are other ways to win. An amazing legacy for @TeamUSA and @USFigureSkating! ⛸️🥇
It's a pleasure working with Leah and the @Regeneron team on potential solutions with @mammothbiosci that combine two breakthrough platforms, CRISPR & tissue-specific delivery, to address the unmet need for patients living with genetic disease.
What happens when two #CRISPR experts share a vision?
In episode 3 of The Nucleus, Regeneron’s Leah Sabin joins @mammothbiosci’s @janiceschen to discuss collaboration, ultra-compact gene editors, and why small enzymes are opening big doors in therapeutic delivery. 🦣 🧬
It was an honor to participate in @TEDxPaloAlto and share our vision @mammothbiosci to reshape the future of medicine by correcting the root cause of disease with CRISPR gene editing🧬

Such an inspiring story, and congratulations to the team that has saved this baby's life with a custom #CRISPR therapy. This is just the beginning of the transformative impact that gene editing will have on millions of patients suffering from genetic diseases.
A gene-editing treatment used on a 9½-month-old boy with a rare condition has the potential to help people with thousands of other uncommon genetic diseases #NBTNewsBeat nytimes.com/2025/05/15/healt…
"moving where the puck is going" has a whole new meaning now @mammothbiosci 🦣🧬🏒
Breaking: Utah Mammoth was revealed as the new name of Utah Hockey Club and permanent identity for the NHL franchise after a 13-month process that included 850,000 ballots cast by fans in multiple rounds of voting.

Hard to process this immeasurable loss. My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of everyone involved in this horrific tragedy.
U.S. Figure Skating can confirm that several members of our skating community were sadly aboard American Airlines Flight 5342, which collided with a helicopter yesterday evening in Washington, D.C. These athletes, coaches, and family members were returning home from the National Development Camp held in conjunction with the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas.
We are devastated by this unspeakable tragedy and hold the victims’ families closely in our hearts. We will continue to monitor the situation and will release more information as it becomes available.
It’s not very often that #CRISPR scientists think about anesthesiology, and vice versa. But over time, more patients receiving CRISPR therapies will come under the care of anesthesiologists. Check out our latest review with @UCSF Dept of Anesthesia👇

Our goal was to provide an overview of CRISPR to anesthesiologists, who have unique skills to deliver CRISPR medicines to patients. We also discuss potential applications of CRISPR such as managing chronic pain and critical illness, which could directly impact the field.
Our baby boy is here! Parenting a toddler and newborn has brought new challenges, but once in a while something like this happens and my heart explodes ❤️
One of the coolest applications in AI: proteins play a role in just about every biochemical function, and these breakthroughs have made it possible to design imagined proteins and predict structures of known proteins! Congrats to the #NobelPrize Laureates! 👏
BREAKING NEWS
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2024 #NobelPrize in Chemistry with one half to David Baker “for computational protein design” and the other half jointly to Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper “for protein structure prediction.”
Congrats to the @USFigureSkating Olympic Team Champion and 2X OGM @nathanwchen on their long overdue gold medals! 🥇 Grateful to have a proper Olympic celebration with the fam at #Paris2024
An exciting week on the east coast representing @mammothbiosci at the @plumalleyco launch event @Nasdaq and 50th anniversary @IWFglobal, followed by @nathanwchen’s graduation from @Yale! 🎓🎉
