The Supreme Court of 🇨🇦 dismissed Cambie Surgeries Corporation’s application to appeal! This ends the battle by an investor-owned corporation to overturn key parts of BC's Medicare Protection Act that ensure care is based on need, not ability to pay. decisions.scc-csc.ca/scc-csc…

In one day, two politicians - Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia - with ties to Trump and his family have lost surprise elections, thanks to high turnout. The rise of the international far-right is not inevitable.

Back to the confessional- AB doesn’t have a “record” high of acute care beds- not even close. BTW- how about addressing the very low AB vax rates for flu/covid- RECORD LOW in 10yrs. How about N95 in HC? Easy to access COVID/flu tests? Clean indoor air? Stay home when sick?

Sitting here all miserable... Just went and got 4 darn immunizations: covid, flu, RSV and pneumonia. I think I'll need ibuprofen for a couple of days now! So, I developed a picture from the last 2 clear nights. Sh2 161 is another star forming region of our galaxy.

So true. When countries resort to finger-pointing and responsibility-shirking -- across regions and the globe -- it undermines the solidarity which is essential to preventing, preparing, detecting and responding to outbreaks.
The Ebola virus is the enemy here, not each other. The back and forth over this outbreak between citizens of different countries, and other actors, has been disheartening. It is true that an outbreak, or even limited disease transmission, within our borders carries real political and economic costs, but the response depends on countries working together to stop the virus.

Now that the AB referendum is done, it is time for the federal government of @MarkJCarney and his health minister @MarjoriePLC to intervene on Bill 11. The Canada Health Act says the minister is REQUIRED to act. There should be a compliance review, a pause, and if necessary, discretionary penalties through the withholding of money from the Canada Health Transfer. #cdnpoli #abpoli @FriendsMedicare @CMA_Docs @canadanurses @karenpalmeryvr @raghu_venugopal @PfParks @JMeddings

Slight counter point. We took Hilary to MD Anderson for a second opinion- my wife wanted it - they told us we were getting truly excellent care in Ottawa and they wouldn’t change a thing
We have had some EXCELLENT doctors, and one of the reasons I'm so eager to sing their praises is because of the astonishing work they did to bring things to Canada that wouldn't otherwise have been available for many years.

It's VERY SIMPLE: On the day that Mr. Sreekumar died waiting for care there were 48 out of 51 Emergency Care spaces in that ED were blocked by sick patients that should have been admitted to hospital. The ED was non-fuctional. Govt and the CEO knows this and have done nothing
Why was a life threatening aortic dissection missed? And did a crowded ER play a role? @CTVNews

It's not unique to media. We're all living in an ultra-leaky information ecosystem & should assume what's said at work will get out. Be yourself in the workplace - authenticity is paramount - but be your most civil, thoughtful, authentic self. Precision & sensitivity matter.
Hitting public radio levels of everyone recording and leaking every internal meeting :/

ALBERTANS, THANK YOU! Today, I am thankful for the 18,000 #ForeverCanadian volunteers that trusted and supported me for the last 18 months. I’m also thankful for everyone who voted to keep Canada united. I’d like to drive the Unity Bus into a sunset, but there may more to do.
I bet you never dreamed your resume / legacy would part in keeping Canada to together... Bet the dream was going out in a motor home fishing during retirement. Thank you Hon. @LukaszukAB

VOTE as if Canada’s future depends on it, because it does. If you’re hoping to send a message to Ottawa, your message was already heard. Please, don’t send a message to investors that Alberta is in turmoil till another $130,000,000 referendum. Now is time to focus on solutions.

If Alberta wants health system metrics more like Sweden and Denmark, it must import the whole Nordic health care ecosystem. Otherwise, importing dual practice alone risks longer waits for everyone, except those who can pay. (17/17)

Alberta and the Nordic countries may share a love of snowy winter days, but our similarities do not extend to our health care systems. We cannot pluck one incidental feature —dual practice— and parachute it into Alberta, expecting shorter waits for care. (16/17)

Scandinavia's experience with dual practice offers no proof that Alberta's experiment will work. Alberta should instead strengthen publicly funded health care for everyone, consistent with the Canada Health Act, rather than shift scarce resources toward those who pay. (15/17)

Alberta should learn from the stronger health system performance in Sweden and Denmark. But attributing their success to dual practice alone as the "secret sauce" ignores key differences in physician supply, compensation, incentives, employment. (14/17)

Dual practice is ultimately a competition for scarce physician time. Since private-pay markets compete for the same surgeons, anesthetists, and clinical staff, dual practice risks shifting capacity toward patients who can pay, rather than increasing total supply of care. (13/17)

In Alberta, approved dual practice doctors can move seamlessly between two markets: one publicly funded and based on medical need, and another where doctors charge patients for faster access. (12/17)
