Just went to ⁦@MSDHighSchool⁩ to retrieve Alex’s book bag from the day he was murdered in Parkland (in this box). They told me the BIOHAZARD sticker means it has Alex’s blood on it & could have bullet holes. I’m afraid I’m not strong enough to open the box. This is horrible

Another trip around the sun 🎂 Celebrating with the best crew there is: Caryn, Morgan, Avery and Ryan. They keep me laughing, keep me grounded and put up with a lot of airport time. If you’d like to give me something this year, skip the gift and make a donation to Safe Schools For Alex @alexsafeschools instead. Thank you for all the love! For Alex. And for all of them. Do you know how many weapons incidents your kid’s school reported last year? Most parents don’t. Look it up: safeschoolsforalex.org/ Best on desktop for now. A powerful new phone version is coming.

Two school shooting plots in two weeks. Both were caught online. Corona, California: police say two 15-year-olds researched school shootings for months and discussed attacking their school. The @FBI flagged their messages. Canton, Georgia: three suspects arrested in an alleged plot against Cherokee High School. Warrants say they had a floor plan and had picked a date. The FBI flagged their social media posts. Nobody got hurt, because someone noticed and acted. Parents, please pay attention to what your kids see and post online. And if something feels wrong, report it. For Alex. And for all of them.

I’ve given hundreds of presentations since my little boy Alex was murdered during the Parkland school shooting but yesterday 2 things happened that I never expected: 1. I met a hero from Parkland that ran in the building to save lives 2. I met Bend Oregon Chief of Police Mike Krantz after they had a school shooting there.

“That was someone else’s job.” After the Parkland school shooting, we asked the principal of Marjory Stoneman Douglas if he expected to know about a threat to shoot up his school. That was his answer. There was no real training for teachers, no panic buttons and no one who truly knew how to run a threat assessment. Then 17 people were murdered and 17 injured in under 4 minutes. Today Florida teachers have silent panic alarms because of Alyssa’s Law, which @lorialhadeff and @MakeSchoolSafe8 fought for after losing Alyssa that same day. 13 states have passed it so far. 37 still haven’t. Safety can’t be someone else’s job. Not the principal’s, not the teacher’s, not the parent’s. It’s all of ours. For Alex. And for all of them. safeschoolsforalex.org/

PARENTS, a question: if your kid’s school went into lockdown right now, would you drive there? Most of us would. But during last week’s fake shooter calls in 4 states, the most helpful thing parents could do was stay off the roads and phone lines and wait for official updates. And talk to your teens. A fake threat against a school can be a felony. I wrote about how swatting works and what parents should do when the lockdown alert hits their phone 👇 safeschoolsforalex.org/newsl… For Alex. And for all of them.

I wish Kaylub had been there in Parkland to save my little boy Alex 💔. Instead we had the coward of @browardsheriff. 17 were murdered and 17 were injured while he waited outside.

Looking forward to presenting on Uvalde, Parkland & 764/TCC at @TheIACP 2026 conference alongside school safety experts @OrangeCoSheriff @SheriffMina & @MissouriSBA Glen Moore.

Two 15-year-old girls spent months researching school shootings, police say. They discussed how to attack their high school. They talked about how to get weapons. They never got the chance. The @FBI flagged their social media messages and alerted Corona Police in California. Detectives searched homes and devices, and both students, one from Corona High and one from Norco High, were arrested on conspiracy to commit murder charges. Police say no weapons were found, and the girls had not been able to get any. This is what prevention looks like. Attackers almost always leave warning signs, and today those signs are usually online. Someone has to notice, and someone has to act fast. Parents, know what your kids are doing online and who they’re talking to. If you see or hear something concerning, report it. That’s how this one was stopped. If you see something, say something. Call 911 in an emergency, or use your state’s anonymous school tip line. For Alex. And for all of them. safeschoolsforalex.org/

“What’s going on? I need my kid.” @volusiaschools, @VolusiaSheriff and @RaptorK12 practiced that moment so parents never have to wonder. Reunification plans are the law in Florida since Parkland. Practicing them is what makes them work.

The doors were locked. The attacker shot through the glass. A new study of 54 school attacks over 25 years found that every time an attacker forced their way through a locked door, they went through glass. Not one solid door with a working lock was breached. Parents, ask your principal two questions this week: Which outside doors have glass, and has it been assessed? Does my child’s classroom door lock from the inside and have a marked hard corner? I wrote about what schools can do, much of it for almost no cost: safeschoolsforalex.org/newsl… For Alex. And for all of them.
