Congratulations to my PhD student Emily Kuang @EmilyKuang8, whom I co-supervise with Kristen @kristenshino at RIT, for receiving Google PhD fellowship 2023! Emily investigates how best to design human-AI collaboration for user experience (UX) evaluation in today’s AI landscape.

Human-AI collaboration tends to be asynchronous. However, productive human-human collaboration is often synchronous. We investigated how Synchronization and Explanations might affect human-AI collaboration in our #CSCW2022 paper: arxiv.org/abs/2112.12387. @QVeraLiao @jeffjianzhao

Thank Tiago Guerreiro @tjvguerreiro for writing a technical perspective for our paper on creating eyelid gestures for people with motor impairments! Check this wonderful writing here: cacm.acm.org/magazines/2022/… and our original work here: dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/34983…
Was invited to write a technical perspective for @CACMmag as a prologue to the paper "Eyelid gestures for people with motor impairments" by @mingming_fan, @Franklin_M_Li and Zhen Li Technical Perspective: Eyelid Gestures Enhance Mobile Interaction m-cacm.acm.org/magazines/202…

Ditto. There is only slightly over a month's time between the 2nd round notification and the conference time. It would be difficult for many people around the world to apply for US visa and book affordable air tickets in such a short time. @clifflampe, @ayman, #chi2022 #CHI2021
R&R is great but creates potential huge logistic issues. As the results come out late, many authors who need visas won't have enough time to apply for them and book the travel! Not everyone in the world can travel that "freely" I wonder how #CHI2022 will plan for this. #CHI2021

Excited to feature our recent work ChartSeer in #Nightingale #DVS on exploratory visual analysis and vis recommendations @mingming_fan @mia_mifeng
It's easy to get lost when working with an unfamiliar dataset or problem for which you have no goals or only vague hypotheses. @jeffjianzhao introduces ChartSeer & other major solutions that assist with the exploratory visual analysis of #data buff.ly/2KxFrvE #dataviz

My coauthors (@Zhen_CS and @Franklin_M_Li) would like to thank Hebei and Shijiazhuang Disabled Person's Federations in recruiting the participants, who helped us understand how people with motor impairments use and feel about eyelid gestures.

Thank @TheOfficialACM for making this positive move.
Today, in my last email to @TheOfficialACM members, I was allowed to announce some super news. ACM has adopted “the goal of opening the Digital Library within five years.” Let’s celebrate - #openAccess is something many of us have wanted for a long time

Roshan is asking the hard question to our temperature #haptics panel "how will the future of thermal feedback look like: is it VR, affective, or what else?". Great discussion! #CHI2020 #STT20 24/N

Thanks for sharing! I also recommend reading and reflecting on "Critical Race Theory for HCI" from CHI 2020: dl.acm.org/doi/abs/10.1145/3…
Stand in solidarity as we address institutional racism within SIGCHI. Many have expressed their private support, but they are fearful that public allyship would be harmful to their careers. This fear must stop. Please share our story: bit.ly/3hnMBP6 #SIGCHI #SIGCHI4ALL

.@rochci meeting in a VR space hosting @mingming_fan. Nice to go around the table and 'relive' the experience of being in close proximity to each other. Audio-visual mechanisms need improvement. Thank you Dr. Fan for braving the presentation w/ your exciting work.
