"is the secret to developing taste just watching more movies?" Yes. Or there are times it's just watching a film you love more than twice. Everything else is secondary.
cinephile oomfs is the secret to developing taste just watching more movies?? what do you like about movies.. or look for ig... & how much does your impression of the film depend on the visuals vs the writing/pacing? would u consider acting as part of the former or the latter

I don't think going PARTICULARLY about the content (aesthetic, narrative, etc) decidedly forms taste, it does help, but lots of extra-cinematic factors are involved in the shaping of taste. so I don't think it is not a concern that can be resolved right away (hence, secondary)

everything that should be a basic right in the philippines is a privilege hahaha healthcare, housing, education, food, EVEN WORK.
What's something that should be a basic right but still feels like a privilege in the Philippines?

u are the one who red washes your reactionary suspicion against comrades. maybe you are the CIA asset that you are scared of.
the biggest left-wing org in this country parrots that “China is imperialist” accusation. It completely flattens the definition of imperialism + red washes CIA talking points. I’m glad more fellow countrymen and kasamas are seeing that this false consciousness is beating our ass

Cinephilia is an activity and can only be ontic "in nature" i.e., cinephilia's "nature" only comes off from experience and is never given by nature as such -- especially since the phenomenon of cinema is technological, to argue otherwise is to denounce cinema's real existence.
Hot take :Naniniwala ka bang IPINANGANAK na talagang CINEPHILE ang isang tao (Nature), o nabubuo lang ito dahil sa ENVIRONMENT & EXPERIENCE (Nurture)? Let’s discuss civilly. 🧠

It took 2–3 years to edit Apocalypse Now because Coppola shot 1 million feet of film, 90x what’s typical, and the footage was a mess. The movie wrapped without a clear plot structure, so editor Walter Murch spent months shaping it into a cohesive arc. But sure, praise Coppola.
Movies are MADE in post production and I’ll die on this hill.

I need to sit down, relax, and read Jameson
Billions must read this book by Jameson. The relationship between idealism and materialism, particularly between Hegel and Marx, is a little more complicated than two opposing camps trying to one-shot each other.

pagiging loner.
Anong bagay ang masyadong romanticized sa movies pero actually inconvenient sa real life?

how does it look from the otherside? Commission fee being collected by Fully Booked is exorbitant which is why you can only see very few filipino publications shelving their titles there. At this point, Fully Booked is just a warehouse for Penguin Randomhouse.
maybe give the filipiñana section some attention

One of my favorite things about Ken Russell was that he was next level petty: Paddy Chayefsky had it in his contract that Russell couldn’t change a *single world* of Chayefsky’s verbose Altered States screenplay, so Russell got revenge by having the actors say every single word in the script, but in ways that made it sound ridiculous (rapid fire delivery, actors talking over each other, sometimes while eating) to the point that Chayefsky demanded they take his name off the film youtu.be/aLYWDYxuKSY

maybe we need to sacrifice John Cassavetes' soul.
Who do I have to pray to for Karagarga to return?

somehow I wanna be fair with this as a fellow government employee hahahahaha. there are limitations to where can an agency construct an infrastructure and we have known its cost in recent scandals
There is a clear disconnect in seeing the lavish display of a national agency in its events within Metro Manila where it boasts about audience development and different programs, but its crickets on any concrete plans on expanding its Cinematheques beyond cultural capitals.

^ this is definitely easier -- and cost efficient -- than constructing endless number of cinematheque in far flung areas (where it means hiring employees under government plantilla, etc).

Not that I am defending FDCP's decision to contruct Cinematheques on select areas because... they have tried on places -- Remember Cinematheque Nabunturan and Baguio? -- but there are things that is hard to maintain without proper funding and support.
