All of a sudden, those who intentionally killed these Nigerians have walked free. No one is talking about them anymore. This pattern keeps repeating, and the powerful politicians and elites are never investigated. How long will we keep accepting this? What kind of spell or control have the politicians cast over us?

Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa reported news and aired views on Nigeria Television Authority before she became a legislator. It is disturbing her that journalism is not fully developed as a profession that the practitioners will be proud of. It is also a cause for concern that journalists are poorly paid and some media employers do not put a premium on the welfare of those who make their medium what it is through their dedication to news reporting. Mrs Dabiri-Edewor felt strongly that she must not pass through the House of Representatives without addressing without doing something about these challenges facing the media. She therefore presented a bill for an Act to provide for the repeal of the Nigerian Press Council Act of 1992 and establish in its place the Nigerian Press and Practice of Journalism Council. When the Bill was read on the floor of the National Assembly, it generated so much controversy and received bashing from various quarters ThisDay newspaper carried a news story titled Concern, Anger Over New Anti-Media Bill. It linked the Bill with the military era and stated that ‘Ten years after the Nigerian mass media survived brutal military dictatorships; a bill is now before the House of Representatives seeking to curtail press freedom and teleguide the practice of journalism in the country.

Dear Enugu Police Command, What exactly are you investigating?
The same attack that happened in broad daylight in front of the NDC secretariat, the one that reportedly left a man dead and five vehicles destroyed, which you already know about?
Stop the performance. Stop gaslighting Nigerians.
Your constitutional duty is not optional, and it is not partisan. You are required to protect every life and every property in Enugu State, irrespective of party affiliation.
When you fail at that basic responsibility and then announce an “investigation” into what you already know occurred, you are not doing your job. You are covering for failure.
Safeguarding peace costs far less than the blood, destruction, and instability that follow when the police choose silence or selective enforcement. Nigeria does not belong to the APC. No political party has a monopoly on violence, and no one is entitled to operate above the law.
Protect Enugu people. Protect every Nigerian. Do your job to protect Nigerians across the board.

We will begin the South East Maths & Science Olympiad pre-elimination round next week. This stage will be paper-based and conducted directly in participating schools.
The top-performing students from each school will advance to the State Elimination Round, which will be conducted through computer-based assessments.
Winners from the five states will then converge in Enugu in March 2027 for a grand finale, broadcast live on television, where they will compete for the ultimate titles in both Mathematics and Science.
