Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale today held a consultative meeting with a delegation from Amref Health Africa, led by Chief Executive Officer Dr. Githinji Gitahi, to strengthen the Ministry of Health’s strategic partnership with the organisation in advancing Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.
Headquartered in Nairobi, Amref operates in 35 countries and works to strengthen health systems, develop the health workforce and improve access to quality healthcare. The delegation shared updates on progress across joint priorities, including Taifa Care, primary healthcare and workforce development. From January to September 2026, these initiatives reached 3.6 million people across all 47 counties. More than 3,800 health workers in 38 counties received training on Social Health Authority (SHA) contracting and claims processes, while implementation of the Facility Improvement Financing Act progressed in 43 counties.
Discussions also covered digital health, including the digitisation of 250 health facilities in Turkana County and Amref’s support to 10 counties implementing the Taifa Care Health Management Information System (HMIS). The meeting noted an annual allocation of USD 8.5 million to support Community Health Promoters (CHPs).
Other areas of collaboration included Ministry-led Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD) preparedness interventions in all 13 high-risk counties, investments in county health system resilience, and support for tuberculosis and malaria programmes. The meeting also reviewed a multi-year investment of USD 13.2 million to accelerate Kenya’s Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE) Acceleration Plan in six of the 26 high-burden counties.
CS Duale emphasised that all partner-supported interventions should align with national health priorities. He called on Amref to embrace the principles of One Plan, One Budget and One Monitoring and Evaluation Framework to strengthen coordination, transparency, accountability and service delivery.
The Ministry and Amref agreed to formalise their collaboration through a partnership framework agreement and introduce quarterly portfolio reporting to track progress and strengthen coordination. The Ministry remains committed to working with strategic partners to advance UHC and build a resilient, equitable and people-centred health system that ensures all Kenyans can access quality, affordable healthcare.
CS Duale was accompanied by Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr. Ouma Oluga; Director-General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth; Amref Health Africa Board Chairperson Dr. Mette Kinoti; Pharmacy and Poisons Board Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ahmed Mohamed; Director of Public Health and Sanitation Dr. Stephen Muleshe; Acting Director-General of the National Public Health Institute Dr. Kamene Kimenye; and other Ministry of Health officials.

Today marks one year since we lost our cherished colleagues Captain Muthuka Munuve, Captain Brian Kimani Miaro, Dr. Charles Mugo Njoroge, and Flight Nurse Jane Rispah Aluoch Omusula alongside James Gitau and Yvonne Nasimiyu of the Mwihoko community. A year on, they remain deeply missed. Their memory continues to inspire us, a reminder of the compassion, courage, and humanity at the heart of our mission. Our thoughts today are with their families, friends, colleagues, and the entire Mwihoko community.
As we honour their memory, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to serving others with compassion, professionalism, and excellence. They remain, always, part of the AMREF Flying Doctors family.

"What if I don't produce enough milk?"
"What should I eat to make sure my baby gets enough nutrients?"
"If I can't breastfeed, how will I feed my child?"
These were just some of the questions shared during our #WorldBreastfeedingWeek town hall in Eastleigh.
More than 95 pregnant women and mothers of children aged 0–3 years came together seeking one thing: trusted information to help them give their children the healthiest possible start in life.
Through honest conversations, myth-busting and practical guidance from health professionals, they left with more than answers. They left with greater confidence, reassurance and the knowledge to make informed decisions for themselves and their babies.
Because supporting breastfeeding begins with listening to mothers, addressing their concerns and ensuring they have the support they need to thrive.

A policy matters most when it protects a girl where she lives. In Migori, #Future4Binti is working with county leaders and partners to strengthen policy and community action against FGM—including addressing its growing medicalisation.
#FGM remains a violation of girls' rights, regardless of who performs it.

I always call-out idiots on both sides of the political divide and I'm measured in my condemnation of both. In addressing the political elites from Mt. Kenya, I address them taking cognizance of their education and general outlook. After all, i met many in University of Nairobi as a student and a teacher. I always take judicial notice of their political awareness and education. The rare moments i address Hon Sudi and his ilk, i address him as I address the herdersmen who look after my camel in Bangal...slowly, carefully, a calibrated mix of multiple languages here and there, few sign language, draw images on the sand, show photos from phone while gesturing and nodding...hopping and praying the message will not be lost in translation. It isn't easy but we have a cardinal duty to breakdown difficult ideas and simplify it for the less fortunate members of our community who were born before President Mwai Kibaki introduced free compulsory primary education. Both Hon Sudi and My herdersmen in Bangal are smart, good and decent men. Unfortunately, both just didn't have relatives to take them to primary school. It will cruel on our part to treat my herdsmen and Hon. Sudi as children of a lesser god. I for one refuse to do so!
I didn’t have time to reply, but let me reply now, Mr. Basket Mouth...
What exactly are you fighting with a Class 2 person for? A classified conman who preys on his own people.
You think we don’t know your history? Laundering pirate money that wrecked our economy.
You fought the courts and hit a wall. You’ve conned your own people with fake legal counsel, and you still have the audacity to lecture everyone??
I’ve noticed you’ve been trying to drag me into your useless rhetoric to get my attention. We know your heart is with Wamunyoro. Go dine with your payroll master!!
I can’t have grey hair and be a stupid man like you. Stop this nonsense, Mr. Basket Mouth!! @ahmednasirlaw

Day 2 of the Community Systems Strengthening Knowledge Dissemination Forum(#CSSForum) explored how digital health can strengthen service delivery, improve accountability and support more responsive health systems.
Among the examples highlighted was Murang'a County's digitisation of 170 health facilities, from Level 2 to Level 5, by 2023, demonstrating how digital technologies can enhance service delivery, improve efficiency and strengthen health systems
Drawing on this experience, Dr. Wendy Githu, Digital Health Specialist at Murang'a County Telemedicine, emphasized that as health systems increasingly adopt innovations such as AI and telemedicine, digital solutions must be designed to meet the needs of all people and ensure no one is left behind.
Discussions also highlighted the importance of protecting digital rights, strengthening trust in digital systems and ensuring accessibility and inclusion are embedded throughout digital transformation efforts.
The conversation reinforced a shared commitment to building digital health systems that are not only efficient and innovative, but also equitable, responsive and people-centred.

WTF are you even talking about?
How can you not be in awe of someone who pushes not only their own personal limits to the max, but also pushes the limits of humanity as a whole?
Striving to do something immensely hard and previously thought to be impossible.
Going where no one has gone before.
Enduring the training, the sacrifices, and then the dark pain cave of actually performing at this level.
It’s the Sebastian Sawes of the world who inspire the rest of us to push harder and go further.
I for one and absolutely amazed and in awe.
My fren, Kesi baadaye for now from Kapsabet to the World!
Reminder that Sabastian Sawe's sponsor adidas spent $50,000 for him to be drug-tested out of competition as much as possible in 2025 and are doing the same thing in 2026.
Today in London, he became the first man to break 2:00 in an official marathon.
