Why we all hate the denizens of civic Scotland: admin staff with PhDs and pronouns who can't just forward your e-mail to the right mailbox like in any normally functioning organisation.

Observe the rigorous health and safety standards used when cleaning the clock face of Big Ben on Westminster Palaces Elizabeth Tower in the 1980s. Not a bit of me if I'm honest.

We got Plato's Ideal Forms before GTA 6?
Studying the latest JEPA paper on Paper Breakdown Apparently you can take a separately trained image encoder and text encoder, fit just ONE new rotation matrix, and get an image captioner without training a whole new network on image-caption pairs. The Platonic Representation Hypothesis (PRH) said that models trained on different modalities (like text vs images) end up with the same internal representation of the world. This paper proves the PRH for JEPAs trained on "good view pairs", ie is two observations of the same scene. Suppose a model embeds "dog", "cat" and "car" as points in a 3D space. If we spin the whole cloud of points around the origin. Every coordinate changes, but: - the distances between points stay the same, - the angles between points stay the same, - "dog" is still closer to "cat" than to "car". Turns out two models trained separately, one on text and one on images, produce the same cloud of points, but oriented differently. One rotation will line them up!

Finding it difficult to even find canned highballs for myself in NYC. How can I become a highball distributor?
I'm calling it now: next summer is when the SUNTORY HIGHBALL breaks America. So overdue that it's ridiculous at this point.

Tried reading Project Hail Mary, and I just can't. Feels like it's written by a precocious teenager. In some ways even worse slop than some of the romantasy stuff. Animorphs felt more mature. Is this what sells? Depressing.

Einstein was happy to throw the free world out with the bath water to avoid nuclear Armageddon.
Reading the AI factions arguing today about alignment is like reading the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists in 1947 convinced that humanity faces a stark choice between World Government or nuclear armageddon. The smartest minds on Earth forever unable to envision the real future

SHE WAS BORNE BACK CEASELESSLY INTO THE PAST YOU SICK FUCK
A modern-day police procedural take on ‘THE GREAT GATSBY’ is in the works at NBC. The series follows Jay Gatsby, a charming investigator with a gift for reading human behavior, and Nicole “Nicky” Carraway, a cop with dreams of becoming a writer. (Source: Deadline)

Honestly, I give up at this point. There is zero information out about the hack, other than the fact it was Trader Traitor (North Korea). Yet NYT have not only already decided it was AI, but that it's part of *a new era!* DPRK has been looting crypto exchanges since 2016. Their go to technique is phishing. Nothing they do requires AI, nor would it meaningfully benefit from adding AI. They also hit less platforms in 2026 and 2025 than they did in prior years (4 in 2026, 3 in 2025, 6 in 2024, 8 in 2023). Every hack is just AI now. Nobody did hacking before AI. It's the only way to get into systems. If the hack turns out to be AI, it was AI. If it turns out to not be AI, it was still somehow AI. There is no hacking, only AI.

Wait until he finds out that North Korean hackers actually went after banks before moving to crypto. They looted the Bangladesh Central Bank for $1 billion. The transfer got caught and reversed because the street address of the bank they tried to wire the money to had the same name as a sanction Iranian oil tanker, and OFAC sanctions basically run on RegEx, so they accidentally froze the transfer for sanctions evasion.
After crypto exchanges fall, banks are next. Black hat hackers are getting ready to attack them with AI swarms. In fact, they are already running live tests on banks around the world. There is no such thing as a system without flaws, and no asset is truly safe anymore. They are not just going after the money. The plan is to attack the banks and shut down the whole internet at once. Attacking is always way easier than defending. Even with AI swarms on defense, defenders have to block every single angle. Attackers just need to find one open crack. Not trying to be a doomer here. Just looking at what is already playing out in the wild.

Commentary on the crisis around Poland's constitutional court by a prominent legal scholar, who criticises the govt, opposition and president for creating and exacerbating the situation Very much worth reading, and the auto-translation into English is decent enough to understand
Jeśli we wtorek (3.11) Zgromadzenie Ogólne złożone z 8 sędziów (potrzeba 10 do kworum) cofnie mu immunitet, sytuacja jeszcze bardziej eskaluje. W świat poszły obrazki równie bulwersujące jak zdjęcia policyjnych hełmów otaczających sąd - Nawrocki przepychający brutalnie sędzię Korwin-Piotrowską, zaciśnięte zęby i pięści, a potem jakiś człowiek w dresie przepytujący sędziów TK.

It's funny that so many people say things like "We live in hell" given how much actual hell might be just around the corner
Introducing RL with Neural Feedback (RLNF). We have found reliable ways to train AI models to respond to human preferences purely from brain signals. The example below is a picture of a face that self-transforms into a more attractive version for the subject as they are looking at it.
