some asshole with a gun sticking out the waistband of his basketball shorts just opened his SUV door as i was passing and completely took out my mirror, wouldn't give me any information but his first name and a phone number
nothing spikes the cortisol quite exactly like sharing an opinion that differs slightly on twitter dot com
fandom ultimately is and always has been a gift economy. if you don't go into it knowing you might get nothing back, i mean this, for your own sanity: don't do it.
i would adjust by encouraging people to talk about fics on twitter or other socials, which for a lot of fans is their native habitat where they talk about what they like.
but then if i understand correctly it's a faux pas to namedrop on social media?

for anyone struggling with the whole “fanfic writers don’t own their works” concept, i strongly suggest reading this legal article, which explores the blurred lines between copyright infringement, derivative works, and the rights fanfiction writers may hold over their own original contributions.
there is a fundamental difference between owning the intellectual property your work is based on and holding rights to the original writing you’ve created.
fanfiction writers do not own the characters or worlds they borrow, but that does not automatically mean their own creative contributions are devoid of copyright protection.
the distinction matters.

I'm realizing way to many people went into writing fanfiction thinking it worked like influencers and content creation.
Fanfiction is for fun. Not attention, not engagement, not for profit. It's for love a piece of media enough to write your own twist and if people like it cool.

so my shit is on here and yours probably is too if you've published to ao3. they are republishing in multiple formats and using AI to turn fics into audiobooks that they then make profit off of if people choose to buy
we got rid of the guillotine too soon
