My strongest “vibes not evidence” belief is that remote work is a cancer that’s making (most) people miserable even though it seems better in the short term.

“The Tesla Roadster launch was just a marketing stunt.”
…You mean a car driving upside down on a Hotwheels ramp and kick flipping off of it was a marketing stunt?
I mean yes.
That is perhaps the most fitting literal description of a marketing stunt I’ve ever seen.

I really like this from @samfjacobs
“The kids these days talk about “securing the bag”, a phrase whose glibness tends to obscure the dark cynicism lying just below the surface. It dispenses with the idea that there is any broader point to capitalism beyond simply getting as much as you can before the bubble pops. This is the cultural moment we are living through.”

no comment on the “current situation”- but it’s staggering the degree to which tech has unconsciously adopted a delaware adjacent legal regime that’s mostly delaware but with weird “honor culture” like elements added on that supersede the law and are based on relative status

Many in marketing (nay... knowledge workers as a whole) are going through an existential crisis. Much of the pain comes from the extremely polarizing opinions on both sides of the AI debate.
You are irrelevant.
No, you are MORE relevant than ever before.
You are going to lose your creative power.
Nope, you are even more creative now because of the new tools.
We can do so much more. We can have so much more impact!
No, you are spiraling out with AI-slop and a lack of deep strategy.
We can hem and haw all we want about the tooling but what does the average person/marketer do with that?
Sure, you can fight back and not use the tools.
Sure, you can speak up, which is your right.
But it feels like the early 1990s/2000s fighting back against the onset of the internet.

I'm more concerned with the adoption and potential VALUE it can bring marketing... because it's not going to stop.
There will always be a place for the extremely creative. The movers. The change-agents. The (whatever Adam Grant wants to call them). Because they understand creativity's true power.
But many, many people are not in that position and they also need supported. Let's champion creative thought but not ignore the fact that these tools are completely changing the way we work (and at many times for the better).
I'm choosing to remain optimistic about the future of marketing in this new world because I'm finding empowerment over disillusionment.

Three years ago today:
1,200 murdered. 251 taken hostage. The deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.
Since then, antisemitism hasn't returned. It's exploded. Attacked in the streets. Hunted on campuses. Murdered from Washington to Sydney. For one reason: being Jewish.
October 7th didn't create this hatred, it revealed it.
I'm raising my daughters to be proud Jews.
Loud. Visible. Unapologetic.
We will not hide 💙

People keep talking about this like it's a problem. This is literally just how the entire economy works.
Caterpillar buys software from Salesforce, which pays a general contractor to build the Salesforce tower, which pays Caterpillar for their excavators.
There is nothing novel or problematic about this.
(This is not opining on Harvey specifically, I remain skeptical of companies building specialized agents for knowledge work because it's wildly competitive and prone to churn.)
In March 2026 Harvey raised at an $11b valuation at ~$200m ARR (50x revenue)
By June, for every $1 in revenue, Harvey was spending $1.50 with Anthropic (et. al.)
Meanwhile Anthropic raises at $965b valuation in May 2026 with $47b run rate (20x revenue)
I have so many thoughts here but I think it's the first crystal clear articulation of the double counting of revenue that's happening in VC land.
A single dollar flows into Harvey's , boosting their valuation at 50x ratio, then turns into $1.50 and flows into Anthropic where it boosts valuation at 20x.
$1m spend customer spend with Harvey was leading to $80m in valuation markup across Harvey and Anthropic.
I don't get it.

12 years to get to $14m. $14m is impressive, no doubt. But I bet in those 12 years, it felt like a grind occassionally. Kudos to you for being a dog and sticking with it. It 100% paid off.

AI doesn't replace taste. It make people who already have it even better at their craft.
@ttunguz and @samfjacobs use AI to improve their writing, not automate it. More citations, better metaphors.
Same goes for engineering. AI raises the floor for non-technical people. But it shoots technical people through the roof to another dimension.

25 years ago, america mourned together. a long, confusing process. but we were a country. if it happened today the streamers would be blaming trump and the jews by this afternoon, and leftoids on tiktok would be saying the bankers deserved it. we’ve lost more than we realize.

Something I've learned about being too online in the last few years is that some people really truly cannot believe that other people might come to opinions about the world that are different from their own in a way that is natural and fair. Everything has to be an op.
There are all sorts of people—mostly conservative but even tech critics like McNamee—who insist that this AI safety moment is a psyop. Have people's feelings about AI safety been shaped by a complex set of factors such as longstanding AI fears, worsening data center politics, the Hugging Face attack and its fallout, and now the Coxon resignation? No, no, no. They're victims of a psyop.
It reminds me that I've had a distressingly high number of conversations with leftists who believe that the only reason America isn't a socialist paradise is that Fox News and other conservative media do something special and evil and conspiratorial to brainwash half the country. Look, I do not like Fox News. But I think Fox News is successful because it says what many people have already been thinking. It shapes public opinion at the margins, but mostly it reflects biases back to viewers rather than invent them out of whole cloth.
There is a powerful, powerful urge to believe that the only reason the world doesn't agree with you about literally every little thing is that small handful of media-adjacent elites are constantly doing "ops" on the undiscerning public. I don't know, man. People's attitudes are different from yours and mine, because ... their lives are different. They accumulate different biases, different expectations, different values, different frameworks. Difference is normal, not an op.
