One three-star IAF veteran described the move as “offensive”, saying the closure could easily have been postponed by a few days out of respect for the outgoing Air Chief. reports Rahul Bedi. It needlessly added insult to injury and showed that it signalled “disrespect” to a retiring Air Chief Marshal without publicly saying a word, he added, declining to be named.
Veterans’ rumour mills also swung into action following news of the complex’s shutdown, with some attributing it to government displeasure with the sometimes outspoken ACM Singh.
Soon after taking over as IAF chief in September 2024, he had publicly berated Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) over inordinate delays in delivering the upgraded indigenous Tejas Mk1A light combat aircraft, at a time when the IAF was struggling with rapidly dwindling fighter squadron numbers. thewire.in/government/no-far…

I have watched this protest from day one, when Jasim Khan announced he was beginning the hunger strike with barely five-six students around him.
Eighteen days later: show-cause notices, suspensions, campus bans, welded gates, water and electricity cuts, girls asked to vacate hostels, Section 163, heavy police deployment, detentions and two students sent to judicial custody and two FIRs.
Classes and exams were shifted online. The pressure mounted, but the students did not give up.
Finally, the Jamia administration had to declare a timeline for the students’ union constitution- May 15, 2027. A date, at last, even if next year.

What happened in Pasighat would not have happened had DGP Jamwal, SP Lamba, and the government handled it well. At this point, I have nothing to say about the police action against me and Sunny Tayeng, and their illegal surveillance. I just wish they had asked lawyer Sunny Tayeng, who is appearing for anti-dam activists Ebo Mili, Tajong Talom, Otul Jerang, and many others, and me at least once instead of asking for a search warrant from the court. Sunny is a busy lawyer and brilliant at her work, so she needs to focus on her practice rather than being burdened by extra work. We will see what happens tomorrow so will you all. Please be reassured that I have seen enough intimidation in my life, so this isn’t something that will stop me from writing or my activism. More power to the people of Siang valley and Arunachal. We owe it to Siang and her people. I will continue to stand with the people of Siang Valley, with Ebo Mili, Otul Jerang, and Tajong Talom, who are in judicial custody in Pasighat, and Adum Tayum, Okut Palloh, Oson Paron, and Omak Paron, who are in jail under APUAPA. Please don’t get distracted by the East Siang district police action against Sunny and me. They would not have done it without someone’s direction. Please continue talking about Siang and her people. Once again, thank you very much for the solidarity.

🚨🚨🚨:Spain’s high-speed rail: the advanced safety system failed, so the control center “inexplicably” ordered the train to proceed at full speed into a stationary one. At least 68 people helped prove how well that design works. Two days earlier in Poland, a tanker trapped at a level crossing only survived by breaking the barrier in the final seconds — a live demo of the “don’t enter if you can’t exit” rule.
Apparently the safety systems are mostly for writing reports afterward. When it actually matters, you’re still better off breaking the barrier yourself.
The next collegium, the next Chief Justice, the next young advocate will know that a side-room phone call is not a private matter. Someone was watching. Someone wrote it down. @sanjayuvacha writes.

This reminds me of another [in]famous appointment of one J. Vishal Mishra, younger brother of Justice Arun Mishra, who was made MP HC judge when he wasn't even 45 years. Not only that, J. Arun Mishra was on the Collegium panel which approved his appointment.
See how judicial appointments are done by the Supreme Court collegium now... My Lords appointed Advocate Mrinal Elkar as Judge, Madhya Pradesh High Court... She is the daughter of Smt Lata Elkar, Ex President, BJP Mahila Morcha, Madhya Pradesh.
Then why are we expected to believe that the higher judiciary is unbiased and impartial?

It is the JMI administration that has vandalised the varsity by dismantling the Students' Union. By refusing to recognise the Students' Union, the JMI administration is also acting against the Constitution of India, which under Article 19(1)(c) guarantees every citizen the right to form associations or unions.
Shame on the JMI administration, which after flouting the Constitution, is now accusing the students of vandalism. Shame on the JMI administration.

Press Release
Jamia Millia Islamia Subjected to Widespread Vandalism through the Night of October 27
New Delhi, October 28, 2026
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) expresses profound shock, dismay, and deep concern over the widespread vandalism, destruction of university property, and serious security breaches reported throughout the night of October 27.
On receiving reports of attacks on university walls, the Proctorial team and JMI teachers rushed to the campus to find that groups of protesting students along with locals had vandalized university gates and walls, brought down Gate No. 4 C, pelted stones, damaged CCTV control room, cameras, and disrupted their connections. A group of masked protesters also reportedly reached the university’s Boys’ Hostels in an attempt to mobilize additional support.
Videos showing extensive damage to university property, posted by protesting students themselves, have been circulating widely on social media, leaving members of the university community deeply distressed and outraged.
Particularly disturbing is the stark contradiction between the protesting students’ engagement in negotiations with committee members and JMI teachers (yesterday evening being the 7th such attempt by the university administration to hold dialogue) and the acts of vandalism that began on campus shortly thereafter. Equally deplorable is the fact that women faculty members, wardens, and provosts were threatened when they attempted to reason with the female protesters. Such conduct is not only unacceptable but also undermines and goes against the very spirit of dialogue and peaceful protest.
The incidents of last night follow a week of repeated instances of university gates and boundary walls being scaled, damaged, and broken. However, the magnitude, speed, and intensity of the destruction witnessed on the night of October 27 have raised serious concerns. Videos, CCTV footage, and social media posts indicate that heavy iron rods, hammers, and other tools were used to cause extensive damage to university infrastructure, even as the university has shifted to the online mode as notified on October 24, 2026.
Waking up to visuals of the destruction, members of the teaching faculty and non-teaching staff have expressed their utter dismay at the events that unfolded through the night. The reported acts of vandalism have raised grave concerns about the safety and security of students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff. The university’s infrastructure, classrooms, laboratories, and libraries, as well as its security systems, entrances, and exits, are essential to maintaining a safe and secure environment on campus. Any damage to these facilities not only causes significant physical loss with huge financial implications but also compromises the security and well-being of the entire university community.
