Four-month-old Habiba Zannoun and seven-month-old Esel Abu Suhaiban died after a fire broke out in a tent sheltering displaced families in Al-Mawasi, Khan Younis, southern Gaza.
Amid dire humanitarian conditions, displacement tents lack even the most basic safety and protection measures. Israel’s continued restrictions on the entry of fuel and cooking gas have further worsened the suffering of displaced families, forcing them to rely on primitive and dangerous methods for heating and cooking.

But Rohingya appear only as victims of 2017 and refugees Bangladesh has "generously" hosted. That leaves out their present - a people stripped of citizenship, facing all kinds of restrictions, forced labour & dispossession in Rakhine, including under AA rule, and excluded from shaping Myanmar’s future. A federal vision must recognise their agency and rights, and scrutinise abuses by every authority.
