NHS England accepted that Dr Sam Hall had "no formal training in gender-identity medicine" but argued that he'd "acquired expertise informally through self-study, experience" and "from talking with other gender specialists."
This is what NHSE "accepts" for the treatment of vulnerable children. These children weren't being treated for colds.
They were being given life-changing blockers and hormones for feelings that hadn't been explored.
Cass is right. This goes much deeper than just one clinic. Full independent inquiry is needed now.
Excellent reporting as always from @hannahsbee.

đ¨Hilary Cass has called for an independent inquiry into how Brighton GPs were allowed to prescribe cross-sex hormones to children as young as 12.âThere urgently needs to be an investigation of why every system that should have protected children, young people, and indeed young adults has failed,â she told me.
The employment tribunal between Dr Sarah Redvers and NHS Sussex has highlighted how regulators and the NHS collectively failed to stop prescribing of puberty blockers and hormones against national guidelines - for years - and how instead the person raising concerns was accused of transphobia and herself investigated.
Dr Redvers sat down with me for her only newspaper interview about her treatment in a scandal which, Cass now says, âdwarfsâ that of the Tavistockâs GIDS.

@bphillipsonMP . I will go to prison before I will tell my gay son there is something wrong with him and he needs to be âcorrectedâ by cross sex hormones. THIS is the real homophobia and our political class are saturated with it. Ex Labour voter.
Look at Bridget Phillipson's language here: a bill that 'allows people to be their true selves', to 'live openly and safely as themselves', that criminalises someone who tries to 'change who someone is'.
The Conversion Practices bill applies in the case of a child who says they're the opposite sex. Think about that.
Apply Phillipson's thinking to the parent of a four year-old boy who says 'mummy, I'm really a girl'.
Or to the parent of a teenage girl who is screaming 'I'm not your daughter I'm your son, you bigot!'
By trying to present the bill as completely reasonable 'common sense measures' Phillipson has only succeeded in exposing its ideological basis. Her language is pure trans activism.

Sex realists must be strong in resisting the end of life thrashings of genderism, currently undergoing a slow death.
Persuading people to be foolish for a second time is tremendously difficult but our genderists will be giving it a good go.
So, no concessions and stand firm.

Loudly for those having tantrums about the NHS *finally* obeying the law, some 16 years on, and providing women with necessary, separate, single sex spaces. This is partly why. I dare you to tell us you don't agree it should.
I first raised this report by @JoPhoenix1 for @WomensRightsNet in spring 2023 at PMQs. Since then we've had 5 Health Secretaries, a Supreme Court clarification of The Equality Act 2010, and simple EHRC guidance.
The NHS delay should shame every senior MP who failed to ensure UK law was acted on. womensrights.network/nhs-datâŚ

There are times when I ask myself whether Iâm being a bit too hard on my employer when I accuse it of grotesque breaches of impartiality.
And then I hear interviews like this.
Itâs absolutely staggering that Karen Dalziel, the senior BBC editor responsible for Radio 4âs Womanâs Hour, can talk about the very definition of a woman as though itâs some endlessly shifting, contested concept.
During an interview with Ros Atkins (who actually does his job properly), marking 80 years of Womanâs Hour, Dalziel is asked about the Supreme Court ruling which established that the words woman and sex in the Equality Act refer to biological sex.
Her response is revealing. She talks about the story moving, about how a legal judgment that settles something at one point is, for many people, merely a beginning. She even invokes the history of women getting the vote, as though the biological definition of a woman is another chapter in some great unfolding struggle for equality.
Think about the offensive absurdity of this.
For most of the 80 years that Womanâs Hour has been broadcasting, the meaning of the word woman was perfectly well understood. Yet here we are, celebrating that anniversary, with the programmeâs own editor apparently treating that biological reality as something endlessly open to reinterpretation, rather than a fact that should underpin the programmeâs coverage.
Giving equal weight to the proposition that any man who declares himself a woman thereby becomes one is not a neutral, impartial position. Itâs an ideological one.
Dalziel isnât finished though, and keeps digging. She suggests Womanâs Hour listeners are too old to âunderstand the terminologyâ. Presumably, these daft old bats are holding onto the quaint, hopelessly unfashionable idea that a woman isnât a costume or a feeling but a biological reality. If only their befuddled brains could catch up with the enlightened metropolitan consensus!
It absolutely enrages me listening to this.
Because this is how the BBC has been hollowed out from within. By people in influential editorial positions so ideologically captured or cowardly that they can no longer distinguish between impartial journalism and progressive orthodoxies.
The BBC cannot restore its reputation for impartiality while people who mistake ideological conformity for editorial balance occupy senior positions.
Until theyâre removed, every last one of them, all the BBCâs grand declarations about impartiality arenât worth the paper theyâre written on.

Sadio Mane, a Senegalese soccer star, earns approximately $10.2 million annually. He gave the world a rude awakening after some fans were flabbergasted when they saw him carrying a cracked iPhone 11. His response was awesome:
"Why would I want ten Ferraris, 20 diamond watches, and two jet planes? I starved, I worked in the fields, played barefoot, and I didn't go to school. Now I can help people. I prefer to build schools and give poor people food or clothing. I have built schools and a stadium, provide clothes, shoes, and food for people in extreme poverty. In addition, I give 70 euros per month to all people from a very poor Senegalese region in order to contribute to their family economy. I do not need to display luxury cars, luxury homes, trips, and even planes. I prefer that my people receive some of what life has given me."

Do you think it is fair that parents, therapists and religious leaders could spend up to five years behind bars for having well-intentioned conversations with gender-confused children or sharing their faithâs teachings?
We at the Free Speech Union certainly do not. Parents, above all, should be able to have these important conversations with their children.
But the Government clearly disagrees. The draft bill to ban conversion therapy, introduced by the Starmer Government, could see parents who attempt to dissuade their gender-confused children from embarking on dangerous, life-changing and irreversible medical pathways locked up for five years.
Unlike previous iterations of conversion therapy ban bills, this bill does not include the same carve-outs for parents and religious leaders. That was a political choice.
This bill is a blatant assault on religious freedom and free speech. The Free Speech Union opposes it.

Lib Dems stance: Women and girls have no rights to single sex spaces. They must accept biological males in their changing rooms, their toilets, their hospital wards, their refuges, their sports competitions, their prisons. Ed Davy and Sarah Olney think this should still be up for debate, despite the Supreme Court clarifying that women and girls do have the right to single sex facilities and competition, based on biological sex.
'There are important areas where trans people's rights are not protected.'
Sarah Olney defends the Liberal Democrats' stance on single-sex spaces ahead of their vote.

Women in Afghanistan arenât allowed to get an education to become doctors, nurses, midwives or anything really, because women arenât allowed an education. Women in Afghanistan arenât allowed to have jobs either, so even if they are already educated by some miracle, they still canât become doctors or nurses or midwives. Women also arenât allowed to visit male doctors anymore in a country where female doctors are as rare as unicorns. The Taliban also banned contraception and since consent doesnât exist in Islam for women because we are farmland and at the service our husbands, women have to get pregnant anyway. I donât think the Taliban worries about statistics and maternal mortality rate or womenâs health of course (what a ridiculous notion!) so Afghan women are dying while the world is shaking hands with the Taliban who are intentionally murdering them.

A landmark Finnish study has found a sharp rise in psychiatric illness among adolescents following sex-alteration procedures.
The peer-reviewed study, published in Acta Paediatrica, tracked every young person under 23 who contacted Finland's gender clinics between 1996 and 2019.
A total 2,083 individuals were studied, with 16,643 matched controls. They were followed for up to 25 years.
Finland's health registers are mandatory, which means no one opts out â this is the complete national picture.
The numbers: psychiatric morbidity rose from 9.8% to 60.7% in adolescents who underwent feminising reassignment, and from 21.6% to 54.5% in masculinising reassignment.
Even after adjusting for prior psychiatric history, gender-referred adolescents faced five times the risk of male population controls, and three times the risk of female controls.
"Psychiatric needs do not subside after medical gender reassignment," the authors concluded.
Referrals after 2010 arrived sicker. 47.9% had already needed psychiatric treatment before their first clinic visit, against 15.3% among controls.
The authors' read: for some adolescents, gender distress may be secondary to other mental health challenges.
The evidence keeps mounting. The silencing continues anyway.
How many more adolescents will be told this is "care"?

Baroness Falkner, former Chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, organised a short debate on impartiality in the Civil Service in the House of Lords Grand Committee today and our director, Lord Young, spoke.
Lord Young drew attention to the 167 cases the Free Speech Union has taken on in which the other party is a civil service body. The largest single category in these cases is gender critical civil servants who've got into trouble for defending single sex women's spaces.
During the debate, Lord Young highlighted one particularly egregious case â that of Anna Thomas, a mother of one who was dismissed by the DWP for raising the alarm about the department's wholesale embrace of Critical Race Theory, as well as its membership of Stonewall's Diversity Champions Programme.
Lord Young concluded by offering to share the FSU's evidence about the lack of political impartiality in the civil service with Antonia Romeo, the Cabinet Secretary currently carrying out a review of the civil service and in particular looking at whether it's properly discharging its co situational duty to remain politically impartial.

The TUC has motioned against female union members and embracing a stance that denies female members their rights.
Self identity and the denial of sex as a class undermines the rights that women have fought to have for centuries.
It isnât about âbeing kindâ and repeating preferred pronouns. It is about allowing men into jobs that are ringfenced for women. It is about forcing women to share their changing rooms with men. It is about pretending a man who says he is a woman has the same needs, influence and presents the same risk as a woman.
The TUC yesterday passed a motion that effectively commits the trade union movement to campaign for the gender self-ID. This by @PaulKnaggs is an essential read: "A trade union movement that cannot say the word 'women' while legislating over their rights has not found a diplomatic form of words. It has found a way to stop being honest with itself".
