Our culture needs to relearn the old concept of tragedy. The fact that BPD causes such extreme fear of abandonment that its sufferers lash out and engineer crises that end up driving everyone they love away is a horrible tragedy. Downright Shakespearean.

I have BPD and when I’m splitting really badly and on the verge of suicide begging for help while I’m being purposely ignored I stop, breathe and say “You’re right. I’m the problem.” Then I walk away and go to therapy immediately because I’m a good fucking person.

saw someone say bpd is highly treatable. tell that to every therapist that has told me not to bring that up in sessions. tell that to the two therapists who straight up refused to treat me after seeing the diagnosis. y'all are woefully ignorant about how bpd patients are treated.

Bpd is more then just crashouts. It’s a lot of silent lonely suffering, beating yourself up over things from years ago, not letting yourself get close to people etc. We need help but we need understanding too, we didn’t ask for intense emotional mood swings.

BPD is the only illness where the symptoms get filed under personality. Depression gets sympathy because it's legible. you're sad, you're in bed, people get it. BPD presents as behavior. you text too much, you go cold, you block someone, you're fine then you're not. All of it looks like choices. So everyone concludes it's your temperament, and temperament doesn't get flowers.

whenever i see a post of someone having a clear bpd breakdown episode and the comments are “hey bpd haver here, this isn’t okay and you’re a bad person!” i just assume they’re self diagnosed and move on tbh

bpd is notoriously a disorder that is near impossible to regulate alone. because it stems from chronic invalidation trauma, it makes sense that the individual who never learned to self-soothe will rely so heavily on external crutches (other people). this is why DBT is important.
