My OnePlus Open, which I bought lightly used on @swappa over 2.5 years ago, is still humming along fine and working without a hitch. Best phone I've ever had.

We wanted the kids to have a home phone they could use with select friends and family without paying another monthly subscription. Here’s my solution and how I did it. Total cost was a one-time $197.85.
It's an iPhone SE (3rd gen, 2022) I bought used on Swappa. I set it up as a new phone with no SIM card, so it only works on Wi-Fi. Then I went through Screen Time and the child account setup and locked down every app except FaceTime.
It only makes FaceTime audio and video calls to the contacts we added (family and friends). Everything else on it is locked down.
It lives on a charging stand in the living room, just like the old landline did. If the kids want to call someone, they walk over to it. When they're done, it stays there. I call them on it every day as I drive home from work.
Cost for parts:
iPhone SE 3rd gen, unlocked, 64 GB, Midnight (used, Swappa): $119.72
Galvanox charging stand (Walmart): $29.99
SUPFINE magnetic case (Amazon): $48.14
Total: $197.85
If you've been weighing a first phone for your kids, this was a good middle step for us, albeit only for contacts on iOS. They get to call the people they love, and the phone never leaves the living room.
Let me know if you’ve done something similar and have a different solution!

Yeah I only trade in by going to the store or drop off at fed ex directly. Those are direct acknowledgements. Even better is to have an unlocked device and sell on @swappa for far more than the trade in

New phone prices are up 20%, but you can still find excellent deals on used devices.
Some of my picks from @swappa:
> iPhone 16 Pro (128GB, Mint): $588
> Galaxy S25 Ultra (256GB, Good): $629
> iPhone 16 (128GB, Good): $454
> Pixel 9 Pro (256GB, Good): $420
> Galaxy S25 (128GB, Good): $346
Smartphone sales are at their lowest level since 2012, at least for the third quarter of the year.
The big reason? Prices are up about 20% so far in 2026, largely because of rising memory costs driven by the AI boom.
Samsung was still the top smartphone maker in Q3, with 23% of the market, followed by Apple at 22%.

Going to also toss out you can currently find a good condition Pixel 10 PRO on @swappa for $464 (vs. $599)
Amazon Prime's Big Deal Days drops the Google Pixel 10 price by $200. With long-term software support, top-tier cameras, and access to Google's Gemini, it's a stellar flagship and an even better deal. pcmag.com/opinions/599-prime…

I opted out of buying a Kindle because... well, money. I went over to Swappa, bought a $40 iphone SE and use that as my Kindle. It supports Libby too, so it's a win for me. The screen is tiny, but it's ultimately a pocket book for anywhere!

$785 is a ripoff for a perfectly good 17 Pro. Use @Swappa and only Swappa moving forward.

If you are planning to buy a used phone on the 2nd market, don't use @BackMarket use @swappa !
Back Market listings for Samsung phones are carrier unlocked.
I bought what I thought was unlocked, only to see a Metro PCS Splash Screen.
@swappa unlocked means factory unlocked!

I go to Swappa whenever I need a new phone, you can find last year's flagship for really good prices. We've got a great plan that's been grandfathered in, and every time we try to get a phone from the store it's "You need to update your contract!"
Nope.
