One of the most impactful ways someone reframed failure for me: “If you knew success was 100 failures away, how quickly would you try to get through the first 99?”
In 1992 Peter Ratcliffe received this rejection from Nature. Almost 30 years later he won the Nobel Prize for the same discovery. Don't lose faith in the things you believe in.

More ridiculous than capping athlete pay via federal law?

More people need to call BS on this sanctimonious nonsense. John Calipari has made well over $100 million coaching basketball and left three college head-coaching jobs for other opportunities. Two programs he coached had Final Four appearances vacated. Now he’s backing PCSA to “save college sports.” Here are my questions: What is he putting on the table? A salary cap? A pay cut? Limits on his own mobility? Everybody loves shared sacrifice when their share is zero.
Just got back from a few days in DC meeting with lawmakers. The Protect College Sports Act is not perfect but we need to end this chaos now. We need stability or we will lose sports and lose opportunities for student athletes.

A model with pay and movement limits can make sense. But what other group of people would the federal government (free market Repubs primarily) actually try to impose pay and movement restrictions on w/o them being involved in negotiations?

Damari Smith (6’1 2029 St Christopher’s School, VA) mixes physicality with quickness exploding to the rim and shrugging off contact as if undeterred. He’s a tremendous athlete and can score it from all areas. A high motor game changing presence on both ends of the floor. Demari is a threat with the jumper from well beyond the arc both off the catch and off the dribble. He can explode off the dribble then suddenly brake into a lethal dribble pull-up. A probing lead guard, head up reading the floor with the ability to strike at any moment either with a quick dribble pull-up, a powerful burst to the rim or fire a strike hitting cutters with pinpoint passes. Demari has a quick handle using basic crossovers, between the legs dribbles and he can shoot it off a dribble move or suddenly blow by his man with ease getting to his spots for the dribble pull-up or slicing through defenses to the rim for athletic finishes. Nice touch and finishing variety and an explosive leaper who will rise up for highlight reel worthy slams. Demari is an exciting talent, one of and perhaps Virginias top 2029 recruiting target. He comes from highly successful basketball roots as his Dad is former University of Houston star guard Dominic Smith. Demari holds offers from Arizona State, Mississippi State, LaSalle, Virginia Tech and Ole Miss have offered. Paul Biancardi Basketball Camp at Randolph Macon College. @PaulBiancardi

For all the young basketball players, especially fans of @STCVAAthletics and @VCU_Hoops, Brandon Jennings and his teammate Nyk Lewis have a basketball camp on Sunday! Great opportunity to play hoops and learn from an STC basketball legend!
Full circle moments. ❤️🏀 It feels like just yesterday Brandon was the little boy standing in front of the @MadeHoops backdrop, dreaming big and soaking up every lesson he could. Fast forward to today, and he’s returning—not as a camper, but as one of the instructors. God has a way of bringing things full circle. Parents, if you have a young hooper ages 7–14, don’t miss this opportunity. Brandon and Nyk Lewis, alongside the MADE Hoops team, will spend the day teaching, encouraging, and investing in the next generation. 📍 Richmond, VA 📅 August 30 ⏰ 12 PM – 5 PM Register today, and help us pack this camp with young athletes ready to learn and grow. Dream. Work. Believe. Then come back and inspire the next generation. ❤️🏀 @B_Jennings1 #FullCircle #MadeHoops #BrandonJennings #RichmondBasketball #VCU #NextGeneration #GiveBack

From an antitrust perspective, it wasn’t a great idea for all of the P4 conferences to make/discuss new rules banning athletes who played in pro leagues from playing for their member teams on the same day.

Dolly Parton is one of the most amazing humans that has ever existed and on my old account I had a thread that showed it. So it’s time to gather the evidence again so y’all can see the scope for yourselves. 🧵

Good look at the world of “NIL agents.” College athletes and their families need to perform due diligence when considering signing with an agent. I also found the last two paragraphs of the piece to be relevant for college athletics as a whole.
"NFL agents have no f—ing clue how to do this." "You're getting your ass handed to you by somebody who wasn't in this f—ing world 5 years ago." Inside the chaotic world of NIL agents, college football's modern-day disruptors: With @AdamKilgoreWP: nytimes.com/athletic/7511351…

Yep👇 The first step in college athletics moving into the future is admitting athletes are being paid to play their sport. Things will naturally start to flow from this acknowledgement of reality.

Cannot overstate the value of pickup. The game was meant to be played, not just drilled. Pickup teaches timing, spacing, cutting, reads, passing into space, denying cuts, and knowing when one move is enough. No chance Pelé learned football doing moves on a cone.

This is false.
Gordon Gee and Nick Saban have penned an open letter to Congress urging lawmakers to pass the Protect College Sports Act. “Congress rarely gets to strengthen an institution that has shaped generations of Americans. This is one of those moments.”

It's difficult for a team to become something its coach is not. “As a coach, you can’t just wear the sweatshirt, you have to sweat too. You got to do the work." -- Tara VanDerveer Culture is built through what a coach models just as much (if not more) than the messages they give. If you want a team that handles adversity, you show them what poise looks like. If you want a team that embraces feedback, you show them you’re actively learning and open to growth too. Culture doesn’t start with players. It starts with the leader. 📹: Win More, Live Better Podcast (Ep. 57)

And the #1 rule to remember… It is your child’s experience, not yours. 👇
Parents, if your kid has to play JV as a freshman or even a sophomore…it’s not the worst thing in the world. Stop letting your pride and ego get in the way of what’s best for your kid.

I can only read Coach Woollum's quote at the beginning in the slow southern drawl.
Considering the score of the VCU game referenced in that article, probably not much.😂
